I've waited a couple of weeks to post about this. I guess I was just hoping that I would forget about it. Here goes...

I had an order for a 5 tier wedding cake. It was a simple design and I wasn't too worried about it. I made all of my icing and had everything ready to go and started baking. I think my first small problem was an egg shortage. I calculated and re-calculated to make sure that I had enough supplies and somehow, I still came up short on eggs. (I can do calculus, but I can't add...go figure!) Luckily, my boyfriend wanted to stop by and see my progress so he went to the store for me. My dad got home later in the evening and I had the first 4 tiers baked and cooling while the first layer of my 14inch carrot cake was in the oven. When it came out, I had the groom's cake ready and waiting to go in. I was contemplating how I was going to get that massive cake onto a cooling rack and Dad had a pretty good plan. As soon as he turned it over it broke and fell every where...half was on the counter the other half was on the floor.

My only thought was I'M NOT CLEANING THAT UP! (Dad is a little bit of a neat freak so I try not to make a large mess) I wasn't really that upset about the cake, I was more upset at how hurt my dad was. I did have enough supplies to make another one without going to the store. So that little incident put my behind by about another hour.

The rest of the night went pretty smoothly and I managed to get in bed by 4am. I got up at 7:30 and was about to freak out so I called my assistant (Mom) to come help. She doesn't decorate, but she'll clean, cut dowels and provides great moral support.

We finished everything, loaded up and pulled out of the driveway right on time. There was no traffic and we arrived at the reception site exactly on time. They staff at the site provided me with a massive cart so I only had to make one trip.

So this is where it started so get a little on the disaster side. The table was so wide that it was difficult for me to reach to the middle. The head guy at the place brought out a cake riser for me to put it on and I started stacking. I'm only 5'1" so by the time I placed the second tier, I had a hard time seeing what I was doing. It started leaning. Bad. I did my border and placed the flowers. We rotated the stand so the leaning wasn't as obvious but I still felt sick at the thought of the cake falling over.

I got an email from the bride the other day. She said it was leaning and they didn't want it to fall so they cut it early. She wan't upset at all and thought it was hilarious. She said it was beautiful, delicious and everyone else loved it.

That's my long story. Thanks to anyone who reads it!
