Ok - so obviously sculpting cakes isn't going to be "my thing".......
I'm trying to do an ATV cake to look like my friend's Polaris.....(pic to follow)
This looked much better before I put the fondant on.... and now I've used a whole can of Wilton Color spray and this is as black as it got!!
Does anyone have suggestions on how to save this and make it resemble the ATV that it's supposed to look like????
Should I maybe peel off the fondant & re-ice it in black icing- it seems to me it looked more like an ATV then than it does now covered in fondant.. Sad
It looks more gray now, after the color spray! I've never used the color spray myself, how much of this SHOULD it take to get it black? Maybe it darkens the longer it sets like buttercream does? Sorry, I'm no help! I'm sure someone else will be able to help you out
That's why I got away from using spray color in the can. it takes forever to get the color you want.

I think truly it looked better before the fondant. I would maybe go back in that direction, unless you want to try and just color your fondant black and then put it on the cake. That would work way better than the spray colors. Also, are you going to ice the wheels? You can build the icing out and make them white in the middle for the "big tire" look in the photo.....Hope this helps.

Ok - so I finished it now.... had to paint the fondant black since the spray didn't work. iced the details & tires in BC. It was definately a learning experience!! Don't think I'll be sculpting another cake anytime soon....
Thanks for your suggestions cindy.
Here's the completed cake.... what do you think??
Hey, it came out okay! Man, talk about a hard cake to make! I'm proud of you for attempting it in the first place. I'm not that brave and would have taken the easy way out with a buttercream transfer.
It turned out really really good!!!!! I would have made a mess. The painting was a really good ieda!!! Congrats
Cool! Better than I ever could have done. Thank you for posting the finished picture. I was wondering how you would solve the spray color issue you were having. Your ATV is very black now.
Wow! You did an awesome job! I think cake decorating is a learn as you go process. Next time around you'll not have as much stress. I did the same as you awhile back with the black spray. It really doesn't give the look you want. If you're wanting a black cake, best to make black icing or fondant.
Your cake looks great!!!
Thanks everyone!
lady - I wanted to do a FBCT but the picture I have was too blurry when I printed it out!!
Jenn - No, I'm not going to let them eat it.... That would just be mean.... hee hee....
Wendy - there won't BE a next time.... I'll stick to simple fondant cakes etc... nothing with too many curves & definately nothing black!!
now the saddest part is that it was supposed to sit on top of a 11x15 cake that's going to be deocrated to have grass, a hill & dirt trail but I made the stupid thing bigger than the hill!!!! I kind of forgot to scale it to the cake. Oh well - I'll just decorate the base of it with grass & dirt & put it on it's own for the groom....
I think it turned out awesome & I could definately (sp?) tell what it was supposed to be. Excellent!
