Hello all. I really just need true honest opinions on this cake. It's my first 3d Pikachu cake. I was so excited to make it but now that it's done I'm not "feeling it". Something is missing and I'm not sure what. The lightning tail is still drying so I will attach tomorrow and post to my gallery. My husband says it's cute but his expression tells me something else. This is for a 6 year old boy who is absolutely bonkers about Pikachu. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I know I can count on you guys. icon_redface.gificon_redface.gificon_redface.gif

I think it looks great. I showed it to my 7 year old daughter who is also Pikachu crazy and she went nuts! She gave it the thumbs up. I am sorry you are not feeling it. Maybe after you add the tail you will feel better about it?

Okay, I don't know much about pikachu(even had to look how you spelt it), and definately not a cake expert. I have seen a couple pics of him, and I think you did a great job! And that is my honest opinion=) I think that little boy is gonna be so happy to get this cake! Jen

I think it is perfect--coming from a 2nd grade teacher who has seen LOTS of pikachus!

The cake is very cute, but the only thing I can think of (if you want me to be honest) is the ears. They could stand straight up or straight out.

Don't shoot me.

I think it looks great! Once the tail is on he will be perfect!

(I didn't know kids still liked Pokemon - I made one for my niece (Charmander) when she was 6, she's 12 now!)

It's a great cake! My 15 year old used to love pokemon when he was little. Maybe it is the floppy ears that need straightening, but I really can't remember what they should look like! All in all, a top notch job I say!

I think you're cake looks awesome and I think you should be proud of it. I'm sorry you're not feeling good about the cake, you should be. It's very impressive.

I am no Pokemon, expert but my sons are. I just had my 12 year-old take a look from a Pikachu perspective and he said the Pokemon ball is upside down. Could that be what you're seeing and not able to put your finger on? It's certainly something subtle I'd never notice.

I think the birthday boy is very lucky to get this cake and will love it.

Thank you all for the suggestions and comments. I will try to prop up the ears a little. I made them out of 50/50 gumpaste/fondant so they have already hardened, but I'll give it a shot. I made the white part of the eyes a little smaller. I made my tail 3 days ago and it's still a little soft. The delivery is in another 6 hours so I am going to tweak it as much as I can. I woke up this morning and I think the problem visually for me is the buttercream. I had to use crusting BC because the client did not want fondant. I guess all the cracks and imperfections in the BC is a big reason why I'm a little disappointed. Thank you all though for giving me some input. I will post pics once everything is done.

Ok, here is the final cake. I propped up the ears as much as I could, shrunk the whites of the eyes and added the tail. The tail still has not tried completely so it is propped up with skewers. I am going to have to deliver it with the wooden skewers. I hope they understand but I just can't take the chance. Anyhoo, thank you all for your input. icon_smile.gificon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

It's adorable. My son (8 and the big 1/2) started clapping when he saw it and he thinks it is great. I think I may now have to copy you when he turns 9 icon_smile.gif.
