Is there a such thing as an eggless or milkless cake? I have a customer inquiring about this b/c her daughter is allergic to both.

Any suggestions?

This is what my grandma made.
3 cups flour
2 tsp bakin soda
2 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup sifted cococa
1 tsp vanilla
2T vinegar
3/4 c veg. oil
2 cups water
mis together dry ingredient. Make 3 wells 1 for vinegar, oil and vanilla. Pour water over all and mix well. Do not beat. Bake at 350 for 30 - 40 min in an ungreased pan.

It tastes really good. Better than chocolate cake from the box. Its very moist and has a great chocolate taste.

Here are a few others...
Chocolate Depression Cake (I USE THIS ONE-VERY GOOD.)      
1 2/3 c. flour
1 c. brown or white sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. oil
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar
Grease and flour 8x8 inch pan (9x13 inch for doubled recipe). Thoroughly mix together all ingredients. Bake
at 350 degrees for 30- 35 minutes. Can sprinkle powdered sugar on top while cake is hot if desired.
( Best next day & WITHOUT frosting, according to Hubby)

MFK Fisher's War Cake
[adapted from How to Cook a Wolf by MFK Fisher]

2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
Sift these together.

1/2 cup shortening
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon other spices (cloves, mace, ginger..)
1 cup chopped raisins or other dried fruit (prunes, figs, etc.)
1 cup sugar, white or brown
1 cup water (note: you can substitute coffee for part of the water)
Put these ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Cook five minutes. Cool thoroughly. Add the sifted dry ingredients and mix well. Bake 45 minutes or until done in a greased loaf pan in a 325 to 350 (F) oven.

Eggless, Butterless and Milkless Cake
2 c Sugar
2 c -Water
1/2 c Shortening
2 c Raisins
1 ts Cinnamon
3 c Flour
1 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts Baking soda
1/2 ts Nutmeg
1/2 ts Cloves, ground
"This is fun to make and everyone who came to my house had a second serving and might have had more but unfortunately by that time it was all gone. This recipe came from a cookbook published in 1917 during World
War 1 when cooks had to skimp." Anne's note: this is also called "War Cake" or "Victory Cake" in some cookbooks.
It might be suitable for vegans (is shortening derived from animals?)
Into a saucepan, measure sugar, water, shortening and raisins. Boilfor 4 minutes. Cool. Sift together and add remaining ingredients. Bakeat 350F for 40 minutes.
