Frosting Question

this may be stupid but since I'm really new to this here goes!

Can you add meringue to basically any frosting and get it to spread and crust like regular Wilton frosting? I was looking at the Cake Mix Doctor and at all the cake flavors!! I'm not sure that the typical frosting I use would taste good with every flavor. Let's say someone wanted a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Could I add meringue to that? Would it smooth out okay and not mess with the flavor? I know you probably couldn't decorate with it but what about just the general layer?

You can add meringue powder to most of the icings. Some of them crust over slightly on their own, if that's what you are looking for.
