there is nothing wrong with the royal or your roses. If you feel the outer tips are too droopy it could be the angle at which you were hold the tip.

no critic here mine still look like cabbages.

I wonder if the difference you see is the # of petals on the outside layer. those real perky ones seem to have smaller and more petals.

try 7 petals after your layer of 5

perky rose makers is this correct????

I know on my gumpaste ones each layer has more petals than the last and in odd #s

some will do 3, 5 then 7 petals. for me the more petals i do the worse my rose looks. When you are doing the last layer of roses you really have to pay attention to the angle and position of your bag. You also should really paying attention to the motion of your hands.

I usually will do buttercream flowers, i hardly use royal. But I will make any flower that I can on wax paper and then let them either sit on the counter or put them in the freeze. This way i can just pick them up and place them on the cake and if i dont like where i put them I can take them right off.

As far as roses I will usually do three then 5. Sometimes I will do the outer layer with 7 or maybe use less then 7. It really all depends on how the rose looks after 5 and what I am trying to do.

icon_wink.gif Hey everyone....hello.....for me I use that tip that makes my roses look like those "victorian" style. It seems for me I am able to get the flower petal to bend down better and my roses "seem" to come out ok for me. You can see my roses in my mothers day cake. Now those roses I did make out of the royal icing. I too like it when they harden a little for better placing.

I love to make my apple blossoms and the petunias, I just try to keep mine the same color and then add a tiny bit of white in the "bud" part, I mean the center part. Or I will add a color streak to the white royal icing so that the tips come out with some color.
I do make buttercream when I have too, but they are just so delicate when placing them.. But I love the color on them..

See ya... icon_wink.gif

Ute,

The # tip for the victorian rose should be in your book. I think it is 101s. I'm not sure. I like the victorian rose too. I haven't made roses in royal, I'll need to try it! I like using royal icing better the BC. To me it's easier.

Glad you finally agree w/ us that your roses are fine! thumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

icon_wink.gificon_wink.gif Hello again....The tips I use for my victorian roses are #97 and #59s.

I at first just played around with them to see which rose would come out better and so far both tips work ok for me.

I also somehow got this HUGE tip sheet that shows what tips do what from Wilton. I honestly can't remember how I got this sheet. But it has come in handy a great deal for me.

I think if you go to the Wilton sight, there might be something on this or in one of the old yearbooks.
