Today I learned to always read ALL the directions before trying a new design on a cake. I just got the Wilton fondant book and thought I would try to make the cake with all the packages around it. Thinking to get a head start I colored all my fondant and started making packages. After spending 3 hours putting decorations and bows on them I realized that they would have to be curved not flat to fit on the sides of the cake. Sure enough when I read the final paragraph of the directions it said to IMMEDIATELY attach packages after cutting. I'm sure I can use the packages but I feel so stupid!!!
We've all been there. I always jump right in and get started and have to tell myself to STOP, read all of the instructions and then continue. Hope your cake was okay!
If your packages haven't dried yet, can you form them around your pan? Then they will follow the contour of your cake when you are ready to put them on.

I am a diver inner too. I will heed the advice...Sometimes I read the instructions the day before I paln to get started and that works pretty well. OTher times i am just ready to bake!
Wish I'd thought of molding them around the pan. That's a great idea. Unfortunately, they have thoroughly dried. Since the cake is for me maybe I can make it square instead of round.
don't feel stupid.... you were just really excited about trying something new... I do that too!!
