This isn't pound cake, it's whatever kind of cake you want to make (works with chocolate mix and pudding too). If you really need durability, make sure to refrigerate it before starting to carve/shape it. I got this from the recipe section and it's pretty much all I use anymore. I got a great compliment from someone that said it tasted exactly like his great-grandmother used to make. I'm sure hers was from scratch tho!! Good luck.

Durable Cake for 3D and Wedding Cakes

Serves/Yields: 2-9in rounds or 1-9X13 or 1 moulded cake
Prep. Time: 20 min
Cook Time: 30-35 min
Category: Cake Mix Cakes, Pound Cakes, Yellow Cakes, Birthday Cakes
Difficulty: Easy

This cake is moist yet very durable and will hold up to many shapes and designs. It is light in taste and stays moist if making a day or two ahead.

1 Duncan Hines Yellow (or White) cake mix
4 egg whites
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 small pkg of instant vanilla pudding mix
1 cup sour cream

Incorporate all ingredients together one by one on low speed.

Make sure to mix thoroughly between each ingredient.

Once all ingredients are mixed turn mixer to medium and mix for approximately 2 minutes.

There is a recipe on CC for just this sort of thing, and many have used it with great success:

Thanks for the post, I have been looking for a recipe also. I tried a Maderia recipe and my dogs even turned their nose up at it.

I know what you mean. I used the recipe from Debbie Brown's book and it was sooooooooo dry.... good I used it for a cake I was entering in a contest and nobody was going to eat it.

I've made the chocolate chip pound cake from the Whimsical Bake House book and it's delicious. Today I made the lemon ginger pound cake and I'll post results tomorrow.

I think it was from the Debbie Brown book. It was the worst cake I have ever made.
