Hi all,
I really need to vent about the bad day that I had on Monday.
First off, my dh and I are selling our home and are hoping to close in a little less than 2 weeks (eek!) so I've been under a little stress with that. The people that are buying our home are probably the biggest pains-in-the butts on the face of the planet. We have bent over backwards for them since the start and they are never happy. Unfortunately, we have been looking for a home for 3 years and don't want it to fall through because we can't sell ours so we're trying to be flexible and nice.
Keep in mind that during this outing I'm dragging my 2 dd's (5 and 3) with me...
Anyway, I had to go to our town to pick up a certificate that we need for closing. Stop at the bank to cash a check so I could go get a fire extinguisher (they are required to close). Get gas ($60 for my minivan!!). Then I get to ACMoore and it went all down hill....I was in the store for just over 20 minutes and I just needed to pick up gumpaste...how long does that take? It took 15 minutes to check out because apparently someone hit the slow motion button! Then I get up to the register and hand the woman my 40% coupon from Sunday's paper. The woman says "I'm sorry this isn't effective until Wednesday"....after waiting in line for 15 minutes and 2 wild kids running around I had had it....I said "are you sure? They usually take any coupon"...she said "yes" in a really snotty attitude. To which I respond "FINE, I DON'T WANT IT THEN" and I walked out. I ended up going to another store yesterday and I asked the manager that was checking me out if they would take coupons that are not yet effective and she said "of course".
Now let me explain something about myself...I am extremely non-confrontational and that fact that I even did this made me feel awful after the fact but it shocked me that they wouldn't take the coupon.
Since I'm moving I will probably never go back to that particular store again! Also I took my Wilton classes at this store and they were awful back then...unfortunately it's the closest to my current home.
Thanks for letting me vent!

SWEETIE

YOU SOUND LIKE AN ANGEL TO ME. I HAVE BEEN TRYING ALOT LATELY TO CALM DOWN & HANDLE THINGS THE SOMEWAY-CALMLY, I TRULY THINK THAT WE ALL HAVE A BAD MOMENT & IF THAT WAS YOURS WELL THE SALES PERSON SHOULD BE HAPPY--REMEMBER, NO ONE SHOULD WORK AS A SALE PERSON IF THET CAN'T TAKE A LIITLE HEAT, JUST REMEMBER THAT SHE WASN'T THAT NICE TO YOU EITHER, WHICH IS MOST LIKELY THE REASON YOU SNAPPED BACK AT HER

***AND***
BEFORE SOMEONE FLIES OFF THE HANDLE AT ME- I'VE WORK IN IT BEFORE--& I DO UNDERSTAND THAT SOMETIMES WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE WHEN WE REALLY NEED A JOB

Don't you feel better already? Oh the stress of a move is enormous! For some reason good customer service is very hard to find. The girl should have said I don't think we can (if that is what she truly thought),But let me go ahead and check with the manager for you .. She should have done this with a great big smile on her face. SOME PEOPLE! Hope you feel better!-rhondie

Thanks for the words. I worked in retail for many many years and always in some sort of a customer service position so I know what it's like to have customers feel like they can do whatever they want. The only reason I even brought in a coupon that wasn't effective yet was because they take expired ones and even Michaels and Rag Shop coupons...why not take one that will eventually be good.
The moving thing will probably put me over the end Rhondie....I used to work for a moving company and now I know why all those customers were always so cranky.
I do feel better.
Thanks!

Can I just say that even though they did it before doesn't mean anything. This could have be someone else taking stuff they shouldn't (expired/upcoming coupons) and this new person getting yelled at for it. I know I worked at Winn Dixie at one time and one of the girls took an expired coupon and we all got yelled at for it..then a week later the same girl to a coupon that wasn't effective for another two days and again we all got yelled at. Also the computers might not have been set up for the discount yet. I know where I work they have discounts all the time and just forget to update the registers. Then the entire day the manager and I(assistant manager) are being called up front to override any discounts not in the pc. First we get tired and then customer's get rude. NOT saying you were rude. Just saying in general there sometimes can be other circumstances, but as others said she should not have gotten rude with you no matter if you were cursing her out or being as sweet as you are normally. I think a lot of people and companies are forgetting the whole customer is always right/customer is number one thing.
