Sorry if someone already asked these before, but i was wondering, if anyone knows another way to harden your fondant to make sculpted figures , etc., besides gum-tex??
I wanted to try something else, thank u !

I ran into the same problem yesterday in making some bumblebees...found that you use gum-tex to make gumpaste more pliable. To make your fondant dry harder you will need to add gumpaste 50/50. Can someone confirm this? Thanks!

I use a mix of 50/50 fondant and gumpaste. If I need more elasticity I add a little gum tex.

Try Tylose, you can get it online or some cake supply stores carry it. I made a batch of gumpaste with gum-tex and a batch with tylose and they where like night and day. The gum-tex one was heavy and not as stretchy and an off white color. The tylose one was very light, easy to work with and you get a true white color. I use the Nic Lodge recipe for gumpaste ( I use meringue powder for the egg whites), very easy to make!

I like mixing gumpaste with my fondant. It worked great on my purse handle and make-up.

Traci, How did you make the purse handle? I made a similar purse this weekend and covered a plastic handle with fondant. The way you made yours seems like it is much better. By the way, your cake are awesome.

How much meringue powder did you use for the egg white substitution.

Katibug, After the purse handle is made with the Gun-Tex or fondant, is it then able to support itself just by inserting it into the cake? Do you have to form it on something first? Thanks
