Today's The Day!!! Say A Little Prayer For Me!
Decorating By FunnyCakes Updated 11 Jun 2006 , 9:12am by FunnyCakes
I'm as nervous as I can be. My first wedding cake. I leave in just a few minutes to make the hour-long drive and to deliver and set it up.
After being so excited for a month - now I go back and forth between anxiety and the thought that I am in WAY over my head. Why did I agree to this? What if I drop it? What if folks hate it?
Okay, this is only for my niece - but she's a perfectionist and the rest of the wedding is going to be astonishing.
What made me think I could do this? I should have taken a lesson - somewhere - from someone.
My entire cake learning has come from this board.
Wish me luck. I'm really going to need it.........
eeeek......
If it looks anything like the cakes in your photos, it will be absolutely gorgeous! We'll be watching for the pics!
I remember being just as nervous on my first wedding cake. Everything ended up great and I am sure everyone will love your cake. All your other photos are great. Good luck. I am sure your cake will be a big hit.

First Of all,.......BREATHE! You are gonna do a terrific Job.
Second of all, Your niece obviously believes in you, or she wouldn't have asked you to do her cake! So I don't think you are in over your head at all....cuz I've seen your Gallery! Nothing to worry about!
Can't wait to see pictures!
Have fun
I feel like that every time I drop off a cake! Your other cakes look amazing, so I wouldn't worry about it. Can't wait to see the pics!
I pretty much still get the jitters everytime I do a big cake ....that is part of the fun! I am sure your cake is beautiful and everything will be just perfect! Don't forget to post pics!
I'm in the same boat!!
I have my first wedding cake tomorrow and I'm frosting all 5 tiers today
What was I thinking???????
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! I'm sure everyone will love it
Funny,
I'm nervous for you and I've NEVER done a wedding cake. Be strong. You will do just fine.
Good Luck!!!
wow, I was looking in her photos .......do you realize how long she's been planning for this day???? Whoah, no wonder she's freakin' out she's had waaaay too much time to think about it LOL!! I'm guessing she's probably still at the wedding...it was her neice, so I'm sure she attended!!! Can't wait to see the pics. and find out how everyone loved it as I'm sure they did!!!!
Wow - I think I could feel all of your well-wishes getting me through the day. Thank you so much!
I survived. My niece was the most beautiful bride - I cried.
Everyone said the liked the cake - I hope they were telling the truth and one woman wrote down my name and phone number - so maybe I'll get a job.
I used FondX - but I don't think I would use it again. I really like the Daisy Fondant recipe better. After reading about everyone's experience with fondant being peeled off - I made a very last minute decision to mix a large batch of buttercream and right after the bride and groom cut the cake - my workers wisked it to the kitchen and I peeled it off an put a thick layer of buttercream on. With my husband and daughter to assist - the finished two bottom layers were back out to be served in less than 6 minutes.
The only mishap was the "L" monogram somehow disappeared. It was supposed to sit on the second layer - so I had to quickly make a little posy of extra flowers and tulle.
But other than that - my very first wedding cake day is over - and I hope I get to have another one.
Thanks for all the support.
I LOVE Cake Central!!!
cake out absolutely stunning. Glad everything went well. Just think now you have one under your belt!
Your cake is perfect...no one could have possibly known that it was your first wedding cake!
Thank you for the nice compliments.
My husband thought I would be breathing a sigh of relief - but I ready to take on another one. Now if I can just find one to do.
I'm going to take some time now to study buttercream flowers and piping more...I still LOVE making sugar flowers but I need to work on diversifying my learning.
Cakes - there's just something about them thats happy.
what a gorgeous CAKE! and you still "whipped up" buttercream to make it taste better during the wedding? you're amazing!
I'm meeting with a bride and mom today for a cake in July. the bride is the clergy of my church's daughter! I'm trying to play it cool....
congrats on your great cake! It's really stunning.
Oh hunny, I cant help but laugh about your L dissapearing! LOL. Your cake is absolutelly beautiful!
I havent been doing this for long, matter of weeks really, but it seems to me that you have the most important quality of an expert cake decorator....
The ability to improvise!

Thanks shelain. That's the nicest thing to say...and very encouraging.
We never did find the "L" - but one little boy was wandering around the kitchen with shifty eyes....lol
I just love cake designing - there's something absolutely magical about it. And I love weddings. Put the two together - and I'm almost in heaven.
But my family is a little tired of eating cake - I know, how can that be? Now they catch me early in the day - and request a pie or other dessert in the evening.
So...you should see what I'm doing with pastry dough flowers.....lol
Thanks so much. You guys have made my day....and supported me so much.
