Decorating With Thinned Cookie Dough??

, and would really like to make this cake. It says for the little kids to use thinned out dough and tint it the different colors and then pipe the facial features and hair and bathing suits, and then bake the cookies.

Has anyone ever tried this? I never heard of thinning out cookie dough and then piping with it!

I have seen this in a book once (the piping with thinned cookie dough), while I was browsing through some books at Cincinnati Cake and Candy a few weeks ago.

Of course I was planning to remember to write down the proportions and never did icon_cry.gif but it seems to me that it said to mix one cup of cookie dough with 1/3 cup of water.

Some of the designs in the book were done all in one color, they made very elegant Christmas-ornament-looking cookies, with raised scrolls and piping work on them. I'm sure you could do other colors as well.

I seem to remember that they did things like wooly sheep and Santa's beard with the same technique, too.

I use this technique during the holidays....it really cuts down on decorating time. I cannot remember what recipe I use for the thinnned cookie dough but it is in a magazine that I have at home. I'll try to remember and look it up tonight.

I have Autumn Carpenter's Cookie Decorating book and the thinned cookie dough is in there. It says you "Cut out cookies. Set aside (do not bake) Cover with plastic wrap to keep cut outs from drying out.
Put one cup of cookie dough and 1/3 cup of water into a food processor. Blend until thoroughly mixed and the dough turns to a thick icing consistency. Put mixture into a pastry bag with a #3 tip. Outline and detail the cut out cookies. Bake according to recipe".
I have never tried this but the oens she shows in the book look very nice.
