This one was tough....I decided to skip the foil on the cake board for my sons 2 yr 'John Deere' cake. BIG MISTAKE. I was satisfied with the cake...until I got up the next morning and took a look. There was a 2 inch rim grease stain all the way around the cake. It looked absolutely horrible! The party was last night and the cake was really dry. Is it possible that the cake board 'sucked' the moisture from the cake?

Any suggestions appreciated.

It maybe could have Cakerer ... usually when you have your icing on the cake, it stays very moist.. did you use buttercream?

We've seen this happen before, evidently that cardboard can really soak a lot of moisture out of a cake! It seems like every day there is a new lesson to be learned!
I'm sorry you were disappointed, I know you worked hard on the cake and wanted everything to be just right! I'll bet your son really loved the cake, no matter what! Janice

Actually, it wasn't buttercream but a similar decorator icing...you probably know the one..with Crisco...a little more Crisco..and let's not forget, Crisco. I've never used the Wilton Buttercream recipe but plan to on my next cake.....

I definitely learned a lesson...

Don't completely blame it on the Crisco, I think that with the cakeboard uncovered you would have gotten pretty much the same result with any buttercream. While you are trying the BC, try out Cali4dawn's recipe as well, it is included in the CC list.
