Everytime I make a cake & decorate some kind of disaster comes up! It wouldn't be the same if things went smooth icon_wink.gif

Story #1... Melting............
My son turned 18 on Thurs so I made him a cake. He wanted an icecream cake. I've never made one but said I'd do it because he's my baby. cowboy.gif Cake baked fine no problems. I spread the icecream out in the same size pan I had baked the cakes in. Put it in the freezer to freeze really good. After about an hour I figured I could go ahead & ice it & decorate it. Well I turned the cake over onto a plate & what happened next...... THE DANG THING WASN'T FROZEN!!!!!!!!! It was actually more thawed then before!!! It melted all down the sides of the cake right onto the counter top!! I tossed it back into the pan I had it in & back into the freezer it went. When it finally got frozen I still had to put it back into the freezer from time to time. The next day I realized that we got over 90* temps that day! So that was the problem!

Onto story #2... Dog gone Dog!!
Today I had a cake order for our Fire Dept. It was for a little boy who saved his granma's life by calling 911. She was having a heartattack. Our FD gave him a Hero's party. The local newspaper was there to get the story & everything.

The night of my son's cake disaster we had a fire call for a house fire (this was after I finished his cake). We fought that fire from 11pm to 5am. I hadn't caught up on my sleep so I slept late this morning! Well I was kinda rushed the whole time I was doing this cake. Everything went great!! The cake turned out so good & I was soooo proud of it. My family & I were ohhing & ahhing over the cake.

Then I started taking pics. I'll post them in a day or 2. I always stand up on a diningrm chair (I bet you know where this is leading) to get a full top pic. Well I was coming down off of the chair when my dog chased my cat through the diningrm right under my feet!!!!! The cat got by me with no problem.... the dog was a different story!!!! He's a collie & weighs 80 lbs!! My feet came right on top of him & HE TOOK ME OUT!!!!!! Tackled me like a football player!!!! I tried to catch myself by grabbing the table but my hand landed in my cake instead!!!!!!!!! icon_mad.gif Then I hit the side of the table & fell to the floor!!!!! I was cussing & screaming at the dog!!

My DH comes running into the room wondering what happened. The dog is in the corner cringing in fear & my daughter who saw the whole thing is laughing her butt off!!! I got up looked at the cake & nearly started crying!!!!!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I've never had that kind of disaster so at first I had no idea what to do. I smashed the corner of the cake. I finally decided to just plop a lot of icing on it & re-do the borders. That dog better thank God it worked!!!! I was ready to send him to the dog pound!!!!!! icon_mad.gif He is still afraid to get anywhere near me! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Everyone loved the cake especially the Hero! They didn't even notice I had to fix it! My DH had fun telling the story!!! icon_redface.gif

If I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all icon_surprised.gificon_biggrin.gif All is well ends well~

The soft ice cream may not have been due to the outside temperature, TC! I've found if I take ice cream out of my freezer right after the defrosting cycle it will be really soft, so this could possibly have been the case for yours.

As far as the cat and dog chase goes, it does sound pretty funny, but I'm glad you weren't hurt when you fell...could just as easily have been! Hope the dog has come out of the corner by now. Last time I yelled at my cat it was about 2 days before he would speak to me!

Alls well that ends well, or something like that! LOL

Oh you poor thing!!! I know how awful you must have felt, but I am so glad that you weren't seriously hurt! Don't be to hard on your dog...it was probably the cat who started it! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

TC, been there and done that myself.. I made the cake for my daughter-in-law.. I always get up on the diningroom chair to take a pic of the cake (a good top view) ... when I was coming down, I have 2 minature dachshunds.. one ran under my feet as I was coming down .. I tried to miss her and did, but not without putting my hand on the corner of the cake and taking off most of the icing on the corner... it was repaired and you couldn't even tell it .. but gosh I was upset .. now, I can just chuckle about it as I did when I read yours .. it's funny and upsetting both.. but you dealt with it, you wasn't hurt (the main thing) and you repaired the cake.. all ends well icon_smile.gif) btw, your cake was great !!

Thank you!

I am still mad at the dog! He follows me every step I take & it drives me crazy!!! I have tripped over him so many times that I can't even count them.

Last week I fell into the counter because of him & hurt my arm. I WOULD LOVE TO GET A PORTABLE BLDG & set it up a kitchen in it w/ computer, tv, radio, cd player & a/c of course! That way I could have my own little playhouse & everyone would leave me alone ESPECIALLY the dog! LOL!!

Oh TC, I was laughing about the dog, and then went "oh no" when I read about the cake. Good save is all I gotta say.
What a lovely little boy to call 911 for his grandma, I know I have talked to my little one about 911. My MIL has heart problems and I sometimes worry that something will happen to her while she's watching him. (which reminds me, I should talk to him about 911 again.)
Again... glad things worked out for you.

Mouse,

Yes, you should talk to your little ones constently about calling 911 if someone is hurt or sick. We've had a lot of kids call in just because they are curious to hear the dispatcher on the phone but that's ok. As long as they don't make it a game. My son did one time! Thank God my cousin was the cop that came to the house! It got us off the hook, LOL. Better safe then sorry.

The cake was very good!! I have to say I'm getting pretty good at the yellow cake recipe. YUM<YUM!!

Glad to hear your cake is getting more refined. Don't you love when things start to turn out beter and better?
My son was 2 or 3 years old when he accidentally called 911 at Grandpa's house. Thank goodness Hartland is still small, the cop that came over was very nice and understanding. My FIL was a little surprised that my son had figured out 911 on the phone while he was playing with it, needless to say grandpa stopped letting him play with the phone. icon_wink.gif

Sorry TC but I'm with your daughter on this one! I'm ROFLMBO!!! I have the most hilarious visual of the whole cat, dog, TC scene. Too bad she didn't have it on video--you could probaably with the Funny Videos show for that!

I'm glad that you were able to repair it. I have dogs and cats and I also use the dinig room chair to stand on to take the pics. I'm going to have to rethink it.

And, about the ice cream. I ALWAYS have that problem! I made ice cream pies for Christmas and it took those suckers 4 hours to freeze completely between layers! ARGH! Who would think it would take that long. I actually ruined one of them because it was still melty.
