It looks great-don't be so hard on yourself! It's the size of MY CAR for goodness sake! How can you not have a problem or two?! Think about this-the cake is so huge that the little imperfections are just that-little!

I think it looks really good! I can't wait to see it finished.
SO, did I miss a page in this post, or did you end up doing this monster for the $300?

I think it looks great so far! Definitely put on a border, as others have mentioned, and I think some writing in the white space would be just the thing. Can't wait to see the final product!! You should be so proud!!

Gibson!! It looks great!!!!

You have to keep in mind that most people don't really notice how smooth a cake is. Add the other Provinces and a border, and be freakin' proud of your cake!!!! I can't wait to see the finished cake!

Hugs to ya!

I think it's looking good too!! I'm anxious for you!! I like the blue idea, maybe mix up some more icing in blue and put around the providences. You could leave it a little "rough" looking, like water that has waves in it.

Sending good vibes your way - Good luck!!

This cake is awesome! I have been trying to visualize how you were going to do it after first reading your post when you were contemplating whether or not to do it... it's great! If you have time, you can always cover the white in white stars, like the character pan cakes are iced. This would cover any bare spots and also add a different texture. The color mist spray is also a great idea like was mentioned by another poster. I also like the "Happy Birthday" idea that was mentioned.

However, as many others have said, the majority of the people who see your cake are going to be saying "WOW!" and are going to be so impressed by the enormity of the whole thing (size, design, talent, time involved) they aren't going to think anything of not-perfectly-smooth icing! The cakes I've done that I really thought were awful (mostly due to un-smooth icing) were the most appreciated cakes.

You are doing an incredibly wonderful job! Keep smiling, put on some soothing or dancing music, whichever works best for you, and go it!

Can you fill the white area with balloons, maple leafs, other "celebration" designs like fireworks, etc.?

Here's a link I found with some "coloring pages" for Canada Day

I think you're doing a great job! I'm feeling the same about a cake that just got picked up but he insisted that it was great. As a "cake artist" its only natural to see the flaws. Everyone isn't going to notice them. Besides......they'll be too busy scooping there chins off the floor once they see how big it is.

I think you're being too hard on yourself, I think it looks fabulous! I can't imagine taking on something that large, you should be proud of yourself. And, as others mentioned, nobody will see the "flaws" that you do, I didn't! I used to do floral design professionally and could always see flaws in my work, no matter how hard I tried, but everybody always loved what I did. It's kind of like looking in a mirror. We all see 'flaws' in ourselves that nobody else would ever pick up on-even when they were looking straight at them! You should be proud of your work, you did a great job!

I just realized that if you were planning on putting the Territories & Nunavut on there that would take up most of your top white area above BC through Ontario. You could spray blue for water where Hudson Bay & Labrador Sea are & voila - you probably won't have much white left at all!

I personally think it looks great already and I would DEFINATELY advertise with this one. As many others have said, it is WAY too easy for us to see flaws in our own cakes. You have done a fantastic job so far. Keep it up..it is going to be gorgeous! I can't wait to see the end result!

Looking forward to seeing the cake today.

Sorry for dissappearing last night was very busy!!!

I'm still not happy with this cake, I know the average person won't see the flaws but I do and so would all of you and I think that's why it bothers me so much. I would like to me in the same league as most of you, but am a ways from there! I could pick out so many numerous things that aren't right with this cake but I won't get into it. I am happy it's over, it was an excellent learning experience, and a huge challenge. I'm very nervous to see how people will react to the cake. I hope it's moist and tastes good!
Thanks everyone for the support, you actually made me cry! LOL! It's so nice to know that you're not alone when you feel like you are and you can turn somewhere for help.
I do love the beaver mountie, I was up until 3:30am getting him done.

Oh my gosh, girl, you have so totally succeeded~! Make sure there is lots of advertising for you, and you leave lots and lots of business cards, and that picture is on anything you use to sell yourself.

Girl, once a cousin of mine was needing a dress in two hours while I was visiting her, she had the pattern, the fabric, the sewing machine, and that was it! So I, being the loving cousin I am.... LOL.... made that dress in two hours! I tell you, when I looked at it, all I saw were the errors I had made, but she was so proud of it, bragged and bragged and bragged on it, even had her senior pictures made in it! Nobody else ever saw an error, and it was her favorite dress for the next year or two.

Nobody else is going to see what you perceive to be the errors in that cake. I doubt there are any.

Be proud!
