I was just wondering how everyone prices their sculpted cakes? I'm starting to get some business for sculpted cakes after taking a break for a while, and I'm not sure what to charge. I told the woman who ordered two cakes that I wanted $3 per serving. They are going to be fondant covered too... It's so hard to figure out with all the time that goes into a sculpted cake!! Thanks for any advice

I'm seeing prices from $3.50 to $4.00 a serving which includes the filling. Hope that helps.

I charged $3 per serving for the whale cake I just did. It served ~15. I think that was fair for that cake. But I would stick to $3-$4.50 depending on difficulty and time!!

Thanks for your help everyone! I already told the woman $3 per serving and she ordered two cakes, one for 50 ppl and one for 70 ppl. I guess I'll stick with $3 per serving for now, and raise prices after a little while. Sculpted cakes take so much time!!! The smaller sculpted cakes can take just as much time as the big ones and you don't get as much $ for them.

cakesondemand- can I ask what you used to get the wood texture on your ship?

Pinkbunny- I saw your whale cake. It came out really cute!

I charge about $20 per mix I use for a sculpted cake, which may be a weird way to calculate a price, but so far it's worked ok. Usually they take me 2 or 3 mixes to make. I add charges for fondant or any special ingredients, tools, supplies or time consuming details. I think I'm probably charging a lot less then some decorators. icon_rolleyes.gif

How would you charge for a teapot cake and how many would one serve?

I was just having a conversation with my sister-in-law about pricing. Her and my brother are constantly telling me I don't charge enough - and I agree to a point. But for me, it comes down to my conficence level with doing a specific cake. If I charge a lot - for a cake that I'm not confident in doing - I cause myself undue stress.

If I'm confident in my abilities of a certain cake - then I'll charge more.

I usually charge per mix also. I've never done a teapot cake so I don't think I could be of help there.
