I NEVER charge enough for my cakes! I know it depends on market and other things, but just looking for input.

I'm doing the cakes for my daughter's 8th grade graduation dinner. They are expecting 320 people. Since last year's group ate every bite down to the crumbs, and was a smaller group, I didn't want to run out, so made 2 full sheet cakes (two cakes, each two 11 X 15 cakes) plus a 4 tier cake which was 16 square, 14 square, 10 round and 8 round--all double layers).

I volunteered to do the cakes. They would have just gotten sheet cakes from Sam's club. Though I'm sure they'll like the home-made better, Sam's would have cost them about $35 each. Because of this, I'm hesitant to charge what they are worth.

I'm going to give them a discount because it's for the school, and because I designed what I am bringing, they didn't ask for a tiered cake. I do want them to see what the prices truly would have been, though.

Here's what I was thinking:

full sheet cakes ---$65.00 each

tiered cake (will feed approx 14icon_cool.gif @$1.50 per serving --$222

total would be $352, but will give them % off.

thoughts???

THANK YOU!!!

For non wedding cakes, my minimum is $1 per serving, so your price would seem reasonable, but charging for "volunteering" to make the cakes might cause some problems.

I have never taken a job without first confirming the price, but many decorators do, and manage to get away with it.
