This is my first post, so here it goes. I am going to be in charge of our annual cake auction for the Humane Society this year. Who would have thought animals and baked goods mix so well! Well, the year before last we had a really good year, but last year it got combined with another event and did not do so well. I am brainstorming about ways to make it fabulous! I am so worried about failing. If anyone has any ideas out there, please send them my way. I am already looking at the wonderful recipes on here and am getting a lot of ideas of some things to do. However, I will probably have to twist some arms to get the participation needed. Thank you.

It's very sad that you would have to twist arms for something like that.

There are some really cute cakes made to look like pet stuff. One cute one is always the doggie bone cake(actual cake cute like a dog bone). Then there are cakes made to look like dog dishes(bowls) so could do a dog and cat one. Could always do one of those great shaggy dog cakes I have seen on here that are so cute too! Those all seem like fun cakes to me=) HTH some, Jen

Why not expand your horizons. There are some real cute cookie cutters. Perhaps doing cookie dog bones bagged and tied. You could actually make some real dog bones and bag them. There are some good recipes for these especially with the dog food scare, alot of people started making there own food and snacks. Cupcakes with little dogs and cats. Package them up in 6 count. See if you can find some of those garden animals that you can put plants in, they would make a cute piece filled with wrapped cookies. Just a few ideas. Good Luck on the auction.

Just had another thought. If you have access to the edible images, putting some of the favorite breeds of dogs and cats on cookies on sticks. Everyone loves to see their breeds of animals on things. You could also check with your local vet, he might give you some discount on services, or perhaps donate the first series of shots, or something like that. You could put it together as a gift card. Also maybe some baskets of dog and cats accessories, with little treats.

That is sad that you have to twist arms to get participants. Our 3.5 yr old cocker/mix baby was from one of our local shelters and she's a wonderful. She was abandoned at 10 weeks old on Christmas ~ just left behind, how cruel is that!

Anyway, I like the ideas cupcake gave. Are you trying to have baked goods that are dog/cat themed? If they don't have to be themed like that what about the cupcake bouquets everyone is trying (I'm doing that for mother's day). Is everything baked going up for auction or will there be a table to purchase baked goods. Just getting a feel for how the set up is going to be in order to come up with more suggestions.

Cateyes,
I see you are doing a cake auction for the Humane Society in your area. That is wonderful. I commend you. I am in the process of opening a dog bakery here in NY and wanted to suggest making a cake or cookies for the dogs themselves. I think it would be great, what do u think? There are many places on the web where you can find recipes for such. They can even be decorated to look like human desserts. If I can be of any help let me know.
