I think they offered to pick it up for her, but she doesn't want anything to happen to it in the transport...this cake is very special.

Foam padding in the box? Use something to cover/line up against the edges of the cake, without smushing it and then put the padding next to that? icon_confused.gif

icon_lol.gif zamode you are cracking me up!!!! icon_lol.gif

look at ge's response to new's silos.....told you....I knew it!! icon_twisted.gificon_lol.gif

They did offer to pick it up....but I declined and said Id do it...ge is right this is a very special cake with a huge meaning for this little girl......

and although it wouldnt be my fault if something was to happen in transport if I let them pick it up....I would feel horrible that her aunt(who would pick it up) would have to live with that she destroyed the cake......so I volunteered to deliver it....and honestly the thought of how has seemed to be the least of my concerns until about an hour ago!!!

I have your transport answer Twins! icon_biggrin.gif I have been doing alot of things with the sportsball pan and stand up house. I have clients pick-up unless it is a wedding. Well- Out of shear desperation I went to Lowes looking for the answer. I found 1 inch thick blue styrofoam. It is wonderful! I cover it with contact paper and then you can make your turrents and put a dowel through them, into the board. I drive the dowel all the way until I can feel it coming out the bottom. Haven't lost one yet. Then you can place the icecream cones on top to cover up the dowel!

I think your best bet for sturdy towers is to make them out of gumpaste and make them hollow....wrap plastic wrap around pvc or paper towel roll and then wrap with gumpaste. allow it to harden and remove paper towel roll......use royal icing to attatch it to the cake board and go heavy to make sure it stays....I would suggest piping a bit around the bottom of the tower standing it up and then pouring some royal inside of it.........couple tablesppoons or so to make sure it's really stuck to the board!!! Then once it's dry you can stuff cake scraps or candy or something inside! Something fun for the birthday girl might be some little necklaces or dora stuff from the party store!

Hi gang,
I use a laundry basket that fits the base. Different size base, different size laundry basket for transporting. Only lost one cake in transporting ever and I drive well over an hour on all mine!!!!!! Stupid cake had a handle.... learned my lesson from that one. I can transport any handle now even over 1000 miles LOL. Anyway, haven't made a castle cake yet, but read about oreo cookies royal iced together then covered in buttercream then fondant.....thought, OMG how easy! What do you think - easy?

Darn!!! I'm doing a castle cake for sunday, wish I had read that about the oreo's before I made all those towers out of paper towel rolls and gum paste/fondant, would have been easier. Gosh, are there three of us doing castles for this weekend?

Best of luck to everyone, mine is in forty pieces all over my dining room table.
