I've heard a lot of stories about those "difficult" customers. I would love to hear what your most interesting client was.

Most interesting would be the man who wanted a swastika sheet cake for a political group he belonged to.

On another note, the most interesting idea was a woman who wanted a cake designed around Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. Now THAT was a blast to put together.

Not "difficult" in the least, but my most interesting couple is actually getting married this Tuesday because the date will be 6/6/06. They think the "666" connection is pretty cool....and I'm happy to have a mid-week wedding!

The wedding is an "Anti-Wedding". They've been together 10 years and have just decided to make it official. They are a really cool couple!

The cake is mid-blue fondant, Red Velvet cake inside, black scrollwork, black ribbon trim, black cake board and a "bride and groom" on top that are pewter figurines from "The Nightmare Before Christmas". thumbs_up.gif

He's a Neo-Nazi. Yes, I made it. He lived 2 doors down from me and I never knew what this older gentleman was about. What was even weirder was when I brought it over to his house. The living room was decorated like an Adolf Hitler museum! First and last cake I made for him. thumbsdown.gif

I had a customer who wanted a cake for a baby shower. She had had a sample of the cake flavor before placing the order. Almost all of my cakes have some form of liquor soak, so I was really surprised when she informed me that the day of the shower no one had been able to eat the cake because of the alcohol content. I apoligized and offered to discount the cake. She declined the offer, but requested a "good" price on a future order she had placed.

When I called about 2 wks previous to delivery, she mentioned that she thought that the baby shower cake had also been somewhat stale. I advised her that I make all of my cakes no more that 2 days before the event.

Because of the previous complaint, I left out the soak for her next cake. When I delivered the cake, at a discounted price, she was thrilled with the design of the cake. She called to her husband to come see the cake. She introduced me as the lady who had made that wonderful cake for the baby shower.

To say the least I was taken aback. I also learned about some of the devious methods some customers will use to get a discount. How should I handle this customer in the future??? To drop or not to drop, that is the question.

Most interesting customer would be years ago I wish I still had the pictures.... It was a bride who wanted a small 3-tier cake 1 tier Primary green, 2 tier, Bight red and top tier which was really strange but she wanted in Bright Blue with yellow trim and then She wanted white daisies for topper... I did her flowers and Yes they were primary colors to... She was a teacher and loved primary colors.... I didnt think it would all turn out but the wedding was really prettty now the cake I thought was UUuuGGLY! just because of the color choice... Lot of people called it the crayola wedding cake.... I tried to get her to do white with colores flowers all over but nope each layer had to be different... Wish I still had those pictues and a lot of the others Ive done in the past but you know what divorce does....lol

I had a bride call who wanted to cut costs on her wedding. She was going to bake all the layers, freeze them ahead of time, buy stairs and rent a fountain. She wanted me to make the icing, fill & decorate the cake, use my plates and pillars, deliver and set it up. Out of curiosity I asked where the reception was going to be, She replied "The country club" icon_surprised.gif
I was the 4th person she called, another decorator gave her my name. icon_mad.gif

I had two that were kind of interesting.

One was a couple who fell in love at a location famous for its dinosaur footprints. They wanted their cake decorated in dinosaurs. Yet...they wanted something "classic" looking. I ended up buying plastic dinosaurs and painting them white. Nobody noticed those were dinosaurs instead of doves/angels. icon_smile.gif

The other was a couple having a fairly small wedding. No more than 100 people were invited, and you know...far fewer were going to actually come. So, she ordered a cake big enough to serve 450. Although I loved making that much money, I tried to talk her into something more modest. "Honey...my people EAT wedding cake!"

It was a bottom ring-shaped cake, filled with flowers and doves. That sat inside a wooden cage that was fairly tall (my hubby the engineer built it for me) On top of the cage was a couple more tiers. I forget just how big. Then there were four large satellite cakes. All of this was just covered in roses and doves. It was gorgeous. And huge. When I went back to the reception hall afterward, those few people had totally demolished that huge cake! They even unscrewed the pieces of the cage and took it apart so they could get to the cake in the center, which really wasn't considered in the total servings. Nothing left but crumbs!

At least she knew her crowd!
