i am just wondering, you must obviously put wax paper or something undernethe the cake to prevent it touching the wrapping paper directly, right??? can you offer me any methods of doing this easily???
thanks

I believe a lot of people who cover with wrapping paper, cover that paper with a clear contact paper.

Yep, cover wrapping paper with clear contact paper. Works perfectly, and if you completely cover the board (both sides) you are able to wipe it off and reuse it!

I use shrink wrap instead of contact paper. I've never used contact paper so I can't tell you the difference between the two. What I like about shrink wrap is I can blow dry the wrinkles away thumbs_up.gif

What exactly is contact paper and where do you get it?

I simply cover the board with suitable wrapping paper for the cake (usually a complimentary design or color), and then put plastic wrap or clear plastic wrapping 'paper' over that to keep the grease from soaking the wrapping paper.

Oh my! I love the contact paper...

It is a clear roll of pretty sticky clear plastic. The best place to find it is at Hobby Lobby for like a 9' roll it is like $3.

I just used some (in my last pic) I stamped my OWN background and then covered with the contact paper and you could still see the design. I felt like when I cut the cake the contact paper helped to cause I got to keep my foam core for futer use and the pieces came off nicely.
It is a good investment!! thumbs_up.gif

I just recently started covering my boards in wrapping paper and really love the finished look it gives. I wrap it with the paper first and then use plastic wrap over it. I was very excited the other day because I have a friend who works for a Hallmark store, and when they discontinue an item, they just throw it out, so she has tons of stuff and she brought me a bag full of different fun wrapping papers. Shoot, they can get expensive.

Contact paper is sticky on one side and I usually find it in Wal-mart or other stores like that in the shelf liner section.

contact paper or contact is like what you use to cover childrens school books its a clear sticky plastic covering you can buy it from supermarkets and newspaper shops it comes in rolls of about 5 metres up to 50 metres
hope this helps i have used this method for years better than using the plain old silver and gold foil paper you can use themes for the board like if you have butterflies on the cake find wrapping paper with b'flies also...have some fun with it

Also someone on CC (sorry been awhile and can't remember who) gave me the idea to use the cheap plastic tablecloths in different colors and then put contact paper over them!! This is also a great way to have different colors but keep your cost down!! Whoever told me that is a genius because it saves so much money!!!

I, too, read about the vinyl tablecloth think, but I didn't catch that I was supposed to cover it with contact paper after and my cakes were sliding everywhere! icon_surprised.gif

It probably would be slippery, lol! You should try it again with the contact paper it works great and you can cover so many boards with just one tablecloth. Red you have to use to layers though so it doesn't look pink!

For those who use the shrink wrap method: how do you seal it shut without leaving a large bulge? Do you use one of the heat cutters (don't know what they're called)?
