Is it very hot and/or humid where you are? That's the only thing I can think of that would cause them to be that way.

It is very humid but my air conditioning is on. do you know if I can do anything to get them to dry? They are for my Wilton course 3, the square cake with the bow.

mmf takes days to completely dry. You might try putting a fan on it just to help combat the humidity part though. icon_smile.gif

I could be totally way off base, but I remember using Gum-tex in the Wilton class I took to help with fondant and hardening when we were making the bows.

Thanks for all the advice! I didn't know about adding gum-tex. If I redo the bow and flowers can I add the gum-tex to already made mmf? And how much would I add? Thanks again

Here is a thread about adding denture powder to fondant to make it like gumpaste.

I looked back in my Wilton course book, and it said "to stabalize fondant for flowers, etc., add 2 teaspoons to Gum-Tex to 24 ox. of rolled fondant. I would think you could still start over with your bow and add it to your MMF. In class, we just added the gum-tex to pre-made fondant. Hope this helps. Although it still took a while, the bow I made in class dried very hard.

I have been heating my oven to 250 degrees then shutting it off and then sticking my gumpaste bows in there and they are cooled down and then repeat again 2 hours later. Rock hard!

Once had a cake that became tacky and sticky when I took it out of the refrigerator on a very humid day (it wasn't all that hot). The customer was going to pickup the cake in about 2 hours. So I placed the fan in front of the air conditioning unit and placed my cake in front of that. I had to rotate the cake every 15 min, but by the time the customer arrived, the cake was no longer tacky.
