I am looking for any help you can give on using fondant pearls. I need to string them to look like a rosary, much like making a pearl necklace, I suppose. I made the pearls today. I waited to put the holes in (which may have been my mistake). When I went to put the holes in the pearls, they started cracking. icon_surprised.gif Does anyone have experience doing this or any advice?? Thank you so much!!

Hi Jennifer! I would poke a hole in each pearl as soon as it was made. Use a needle and grease it a little with shortening. To string them, you could use dental floss or quilter's thread. Depending on how you were planning on using the rosary, it might even be possible to use a mold that'll make a string of pearls for you. Also, Sugarcraft carries plastic novelty ones for use on cakes.

Lisa, Thank you! I thought that might be the solution (20/20 hindsight...not so helpful!). I will try it that way this time. I played with the cracked pearls and the floss last night and I think that might work for this project. Thank you, too, for the links!

Lisa, Thanks again for the help. I played with the pearls again today and they seemed more stable (I figured it was worth a try before I made more). Here is the finished project. I used the dental floss and it worked great. I appreciate the quick answer!

I have to confess, the cross and the medal are from my local Catholic shop. icon_redface.gif I wasn't quite ready to commit to molding those, yet. Maybe next time! I haven't done any molding and had no idea how to proceed with them. I was really happy with the pearls though, (once I was able to get the holes through) so I'm inspired to keep trying new things! I appreciate your kind words. This is my first post here. What a pleasant group.

Yes, it is for a first communion cake for my niece at the end of the month. I am trying to figure out the final design but wanted to make sure this would work. I have to travel and want to have everything I can made ahead of time. The cupcake rosary sounds neat. I'll have to store that idea away!!
