Texturing Cake With Paper Towels

When texturing cake, do you apply the towels after frosting or wait until frosting crust and then apply? Thank you.

Wait until the frosting crusts first. Otherwise, the towel will stick to the icing and mess it up.

I forgot to ask if you can texturize the MMF that everyone is talking about and if so, how? I've never tried the mmf, but it sounds good.

Yes you can. Not sure if the PTs would work but there are impression mats that do.

I have never done it, but I think you can use the impression mats.

What are impression mats and where can I purchase them? I've never heard of them before.
