I would have to say that all depends on your recipe. I would suggest actually measuring out a pound then checking how many cups it is.

Sorry i couldn't be more help. Maybe someone else knows how much their recipe is and can tell you.

Well, there's about 4 cups of powdered sugar to a pound and when I make my buttercream recipe, I use 2lbs. of sugar and get 7.5 cups of icing, soooo.....I figure that depending on your recipe, there'd be about 3.75-4 cups of buttercream in a pound.

I believe the Wilton recipe says that it makes four cups. That is with 1 c. shortening, 2tbs water, 1 tbs flavoriing, 1 lb powdered sugar and 1tbs. merienge(sp) powder.

I know this is a super old post, but in case anyone is looking for answers now (like me) I just read on the WIlton website that their tub of white buttercream decorator's frosting is a 4.5 lb tub... and they say it yields 9 cups =-) Hope that helps someone somewhere =)

The Wilton recipe makes between 2.5 and 3 cups depending on the consistancy. The thin always seems to make more. I'm a WMI and have to make a batch to split up in class to pass around. I more often than not get somewhere in the middle of 2.5 and 3.
