I just got a request for a graduation cake. She wants a sculpted cake. It's a high school graduation and the school's mascot is the eagle. I can pretty much do whatever I want....wether I use the eagle or just the grad theme. I'm having trouble thinking of a good idea for the cake. Any ideas?? Also it has to be pretty big, it's for 80 people.

Thanks!
Courtney

Maybe make a graduation cap, and put a fondant eagle sitting on top of it with it's wings spread out?

What about carving an eagle out of cake and make a fondant diploma in it's talons?

Or if you wanted to a fun cake you could carve a cake to look like a mountain and make a few "graduates" out of fondant climing it. Have the podium at the top (or a pile of diplomas)...maybe have a little rock ledge somewhere with an eagle and nest? It would be awsome if there were some graduates sliding down the otherside of the mountain...that would be very fun!

Hope you are able to come up with a great cake!

Look in my pix. I did a 3-D grad cake of stand-up books. I can PM directions if you like the idea. Actually there's 2 pictures - one is a 3 layer verson (this one is a bad photo but you get the idea) and the other is a 4 layer version thumbs_up.gif

Here is a 3D grad cake I did with a fodant diploma and a cap & tassel.

the top of the cap was made with white "chocolate" candy coat, then covered with fondant.

I incorcorated the school colors throughout.

If the eagle mascot is wanted then you could possibly draw it as a "seal" on the diploma???

Good luck

Wow, you guys are good with the ideas! Thanks!! I had kind of decided to do a stack of 3 books with the grad cap on that and a fondant eagle sitting on the edge of the cap.....but now I'm not so sure. Do you think a 3D eagle would be better? I just checked out the owl cake diretions. I'm sure I could do something similar... HELP! For some reason I'm having trouble deciding on this cake! I don't want it to get too complicated b/c I have another sculpted cake due the next day, and a young baby...

Wow Doug! You have a lot of good ideas!! My only thing is that I'd rather not put a sheet cake on the bottom. My sculpted cakes typically don't look like they're cake, and I think this is what the client is expecting after seeing my 3D baby cake. Plus, since I don't really do sheets I have a heck of a time getting sheets smooth! Although.....this same person asked me to do a graduation sheet cake for 30 people for another party they are having. So, I can use some of your ideas for that cake!

Thanks for all your help!
