I have a myspace account to keep up with friends and family. I also run a playgroup and most of my members also have a myspace. So I thought I would make a seperate one for my cakes only. Well I've had it for about a week and all I've gotten is all these people wanting to be my friend to try to get me to take these stupid surveys. I would like to find another option for a website that is either very inexpensive or free. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have my cakes on Flickr (link below). It's primarily a photograher's site. My 14-yr old is a photographer and she introduced me to it. I have a link on my biz website that takes brides to Flickr, where I can get a LOT more pics plus I can add better narratives under the pics. It's free with limited postings (so many a month). I "splurged" and spent the $25 annual fee for practically unlimited monthly postings. I've never even come close to the limit and I have quite a few on there.

People can post comments about the pics but it's not a big chatroom like myspace.

(my daughter is "wierdo777" and there is a link on my age, so check out her pics! She's really pretty darn good, if I say so myself!)

I can help you make this one easier for you if you would like. You can make your profile private, or make it public but then if you do that, there are options to set up certain features. If you need help, just let me know, I'll be happy to help you with this so your not spammed! I have mine set & man, when you personalize it, it makes it soooo muchbetter!

Brandisbakes-I commend you as a mother, you made a rule, stuck to it, and are monitoring your daughter. Your daughter is one of the lucky ones.

My neighbor's daughters (15&16) have myspaces, and I'm the one who lets her know her daughter's have inappropriate content. They curse up the whazoo, have pics of them making out with their (parade of) boyfriends and recently one of them had a picture of her boob with her boyfriend's signature on it! They are allowed to take pictures that are suggestive (taken from above so cleavage shows, or laying down in bed with boobs hanging out.) 15!! Oh, and you should hear how the three of them are allowed to talk to her (the third just turned 10).

Brooke, I would definitely check out flickr or live journal--much more control.

I used to have a myspace, but then it got old and I deleted it. It's just a fad with kids 13-17.

I know exactly what you mean, my brother's fiancee has a 14 YO DD and she has a page where her pic shows her sprawled across her bed wearing a half shirt and short shorts, her arm draped across herslef in a sexy pose, and the look on her face...! icon_eek.gif While it is not outright pornographic, it is SO suggestive. Is this the image you want a CHILD putting out there? There are pedophiles out there that prey on these types of children. I know she thinks she's all grown up, but she doesn't know anything. It scares the living bejeezus out of me sometimes.

Ours is not allowed to put her picture, her address, her school, or any kind of personal info that is traceable! She lost her website once .... dad is diligent about checking her out. (He's former bank security).

I have rules in place for my kids, not to mention I make the passwords & they arent allowed to change it. When they get into trouble, I change the passwords so that they cant get into it & it isnt changed back until I say. So I certainly DONT let mine have free range on it & they alsng.re doio arent allowed to delete the inbox, outbox, or trash can or else! Their profiles are also set to private, & they have to approve their comments before they are posted. So you can say they have a minamal range online. I know how to check things on the computer so I keep close tabs on them. Plus, they arent allowed to get online unless they are sitting side by side each other at the 2 computers. We have 4 networked together, & I can log into their computers at any time to see what they are doing. Im berry berry sneaky like that...lol So there are preventive measures you can take, you just have to set rules & make them obide by them. My kids have been pretty good about it because they know MOM & DAD dont play around when it comes to the computers, or their free time!

I have a myspace page but it is mostly to keep in touch with family and friends that do not live close by. It can be very addictive, but not as addictive as CC!!!

You know the more and more I hear about I think their are two kinds of users - the goofy teeny-boppers and dumb supposed grown adults that think they are cool and post all sorts of inappropriate information, and then the people that are using it to keep in touch with friends and family.

I have one, but really only have it because 1. I was bored when I was unemployed 2. my friends have it and 3. it's a good place to post my favorite concert pics and videos (I have a completely different cake site icon_smile.gif.

Anyway, all you moms out there thumbs up to you for being so viligant with your kids' computer use. thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

I am also an admitted myspace addict. I signed up last year so I could find people that I went to high school with, and really succeeded! I was amazed at how many people that I lost touch with are on myspace. I have also recently created an album of just my cakes so that all of the people on my friend list can see my creations.

Only the people on your friend list can leave you any type of comments; whether it's on your page or picture/video. Anyone can send you messages (like an e-mail, but it's through your myspace inbox.) A lot of them are spam; usually if it's someone I don't recognize, I just delete it without opening it.

Feel free to check my page out!

You can change it so not everyone can mail you. Several of my friends required you to join their friend's list before you could send them messages.

I also have a myspace account for cakes and one for just me! I LOVE thumbs_up.gif it and yes I do get orders from there. I set up my cakes page last year and have had my other one for a while longer. It is not only for 10 to 18 year olds 90% of the people on my page are over the age of eighteen. Not to mention my adult local friends on there who have adult friends from the area on there page who then sees my cake page on their friends list. People I personaly have never met but order a cake. I also have my comments filtered so I can decide what goes on my page and I also have a code to hide my friends pics so noone has to see anything personal about me on the page. If you do it right Myspace is a wonderful free webpage to have.

I agree with you for the most part. I actually have four MySpace pages myself. At first when I joined it was just to stay in contact with friends, but I actually have one for work and one of my websites.

If you know how to work it and really get the link out there it's a good promotional tool. Yes, you can get a lot of spam and there are the few who show too much skin and act stupid...but I love it!

Plus, they have all these new ways to block the spam and unwanted people from checking out your page.

My sister and mom have one also. Anyway, mine is http://www.myspace.com/whackese if anyone wants to check it out. Just l;et me know your from CC please. icon_smile.gif
