Hello! It's been awhile since I've been able to visit CC. I've worked with gum paste to make roses before but I've always attached them directly to the cake - now I have a bride who would like a floral swag draped down the side of the three tiers. I know they're somehow attached with floral wire, just wondered if anyone can offer any tips or helpful advice. Thanks alot! icon_smile.gif

1. don't make the swag too large. you can make it in a couple of pieces and when you attach it it will LOOK like a single swag.
2. Wire supports onto the swag - long ones that will go deep into the cake and anchor it securely.
3. Bend the swag over a form that is in the shape of your cake (I invert my pans and use that). It doesn't need to be precise, but it will help give a natural flow to the swag.
4. Perhaps make some swag pieces of just leaves or leaves and buds which will be easier to manipulate without having full roses attached, and it gives you some volume and "filler"
5. Make a couple of rose or bud "anchors" that are not part of the swag but that you use to hold the swag in place. They turn into invisible pins b/c they blend in

see my photos - there is a cake in there i've use this on
