hi everyone i dont have a business, but i've just sold my forth cake this weekend. and im having trouble priceing them. am i charging too much or too little.heres the one from this weekend $50.00 i charged.bottom is 12x2 banana and two 8x2 top are choclate filled with choclate pudding covered with BC and MMF all edible. could yous experienced ones out there let me know, i would realy appreciate it. thanks for looking

Oh....I think you are charging Way too LITTLE! I would have charged no less than $75 for that! And in some areas you could get much more!

I would have charged about the same for that cake It really depends where you live though, I know a lot of people on this site can charge waaay more than I ever could where I live :lol

I agree totally with Sherry here! $50 is a definate steal for your customer. the price could've been bumped up a bit in my view.

Anything fondant is gonna be more expensive....and you have quite a few fondant figures and accents as well. Plus you had different fillings, and it was a pretty large cake to start with! That took A LOT of time, and they would never find a cake of that quality that CHEAP anywhere!

Don't be afraid to charge for your precious time, and the quality of the cake!

P.S. I looked at all of the cakes in your gallery, and you do Excellent work!

Hi I'm from Chibouga, Quebec Can and I too find that you didn't charge enough. In CDN I would've charged 75$ (that's around 70$ US) that's a lot of work, don't undercharge yourself!!!

Just a thought, someone needs to set up a pricing guide on here as an article or something like that. have it broken down by pan size - then catrgories for MMF, BC, Fillings, accents and extras ect... plus guidelines for how to work the time into the price - i know thats a lot to want, but it would be the best help -in my opinion

I know it would be nice to have a general guide I too have had the problem of deciding what to charge, and it seems like that is a huge topic here.

Or if this isnt the right place to put this idea - where would be or who would i talk to?

I live outside of Vancouver B.C in a smaller town and I would charge $50 just for one tier and $35 for the second.

$50 is way to cheap for a cake that size. As it was said before you have 2 different filling and MMF. That cake was not leaving my kitchen for under $100. You have to remember your time = money.

The last cake I did was a 12x4 square with one filling,buttercream, fondant dec. & other baby shower dec. I charged $120.

i just wanted to thank everyone for your comments they were very helpful. the next cake i make i will total all the ingrediants deco and MY TIME. once again thanks to you all. betty

OK the things you need to consider

cost of ingredients
time to bake and decorate
# of servings.

If I am correct the 8inch cake would yield approx. 24 servings and the 12 inch approx. 36 2x2 servings that would be 60 servings right there so at $1/seriving you would be at $60 right there. I would say at least $75 for that cake.
