UGH, let me start off by saying this is NOT the first time she has done this. 9 years ago for my dd's second birthday we were at my parents home and I was decorating a pooh cake. My hand got crampy, so I decided to stop for a while. I set the cake in the laundry room, and the dog got in there and ate it! Ugh I was so mad. So FF 9 years, and we now have the dog. Long story. Well last night I heard a bang downstairs, I just ignored it caus I was exhausted. I get up this morning, and the cake that I had made from scratch the dog ate! I had wrapped it in plastic wrap until I could get to it today. I was going to make a new batch of MMF, and try again. Well guess not since the freaking dog ate it. I am so upset. This is the first cake that I have ever made form scratch, and when I leveled it, I ate the scraps, and it was soooo good. Not only that but it took 8 egg whites! All that time
That has happened to me once. I had baked the cakes, set it up and crumb-coated. I had a barricade going into the kitchen so the dog couldn't get in. Well DH asked me to help him with something upstairs, ended up there for a few minutes, remembered there's cake and a puppy downstairs and sure enough, he made it through the barricade and had it more than half gone. So then had to rush around that night and start the whole thing over again. So I feel your pain!
I know when I start this you people will all think I'm gross. My first cake (the only one in my phots) was a castle cake for my neice. I tried to copy a cake from here. If I showed you both pictures side by side you wouldnt believe I tried to copy that cake. I iced both layers, very slopilly I must add, I still have a hard time getting my icing smooth. So while working on other stuff, I ran out of counter space in my tiny kitchen. I decided after I couldnt the the icing right that I'd run to walmart and buy some fondant. Surely I could get that smooth. Well I set the cake on the table and rolled the fondant out on the cabinet. I look up and our 100 lb rottweiller is just at eye level with my cake and licking the icing. This just happens to be about an hour before the cake is due and it's a 30 minute drive away. So seeing as how it was for family and I had about an inch of icing on the cake, I use my trusty puddy knife and scraped all the icing off and re-iced the cake. How gross, but I couldnt let the little girl down. I've only had one other incident and while I was bending to put my cake in the fridge, the other dog this time, walked right up and licked the side of my cake. That one went bye bye.
My dog likes cake too. It really depends on the day though. Sometimes she is just in a mood and will eat from the trash or whatever is on the kitchen table. The first time she did it I was so mad! Luckily, I had enough of the icing and a spare cake in the freezer. So, I didn't have to start completely from scratch, but it was still frustrating. The worst part about when this kind of thing happens is that you get so mad at them and then go to get on to them and they give you the "eyes" and you can't be mad at them.
Dogs are so cute aren't they.
I have not had a dog cake problem yet (knock on wood), kids and cake problem is more prevalent.
But I understand your pain.
Our dog, loves fruits and cheese. We have a huge Christmas party every year. 3 years ago I had placed the Cheese tray on the corner (yeah I know what was I thinking! ), as I walked by and a friend was getting cheese, the dog came right behing him, she turned her head sideways and took about 1/2 cup of cheese as if nothing happened. (She is a lab Cheasapeake mix 95 lb really tall to boot!) We both started laughing, I took the tray to the kitchen put all the cheese from that quadrant in the garbage and started a new tray, needless to say, the dog was in the basement for the rest of the night! Now I place the cheese on a pedestal tray to avoid problems.
I did find her with both front legs on the table last week eating my youngest's left over melon, we walked away for a couple of minutes!
He was so upset. I started to tell her, bad dog, you ate his cantaloupe. He chimmed in and said, "you go for a time out!" "Mommy put her in a time out."
I just had too. He was too cute!
Okay, here's a good dog story for ya....not about cakes, but will make you laugh none the less. Two good friends have a large white german shepard who has a stomach (and obviously jaws) of steel. So the day before Christmas, she tells him to take the turkey out of the freezer and set it in water in the sink as to let it thaw while they go out to run errands. A few hours later they return, and as she goes to investigate the thawing turkey, she sees there's nothing there. "Hun, why didn't you take out the turkey?" "But I did, it's in the sink!" "No....it's not...." The dog had eaten an entire FROZEN turkey, wrapper and all. All that was left to be found was the little metal ring that holds the bag closed. Needless to say...she had a bit of a tummy ache as well.....
Luckily for me, my dog is a 60 pound 2 1/2 foot tall English Bulldog who sleeps about 22 hours a day. She's not tall enough to reach anything, and has no desire to try!
I'll throw in a cat story. I made some house cookies (in my gallery) for my brother to give to a home buyer (he is a Realtor). Well, I had them nicely packaged for him, but they took them out to show the kids and left them on the counter for a while. Thier cats jumped up and licked all of the icing off the top! Into the trash they went!
Now that's why I'm a cat person! I'm very blessed with my cat, he never ever gets up on counters or tables, that was the way he was raised (not by us, he's a rescue cat). So long as he gets his cuddles at some point during the day/night he's good!
Our family dog as a child was a nightmare too, he managed to eat my grandmother's glasses x 2, hearing aids x 3 and false teeth x 2 over the years we had him, not to mention many other things of everyone elses!
I just found my cat eating cake the other night!!!
I normally close her in the bedroom while I am baking and decorating, but I forgot this time that she was out.
I had taken a cake out of the oven about 15 minutes before and left it on the rack to cool. I came into the kitchen to find my little demon with her front paws in the center of teh cake and she was eating a nice little circle in the center!
ARGH!!!!!!!!!!
My boyfriend laughed and said to just cover it with icing but I was so grossed out I had to rebake.
how about a rabbit that likes sweets! had to make sure he was in his pen when ever we had parties in the back yard. he would jump on the chairs to get to the cake.
I have 2 cats and the old saying "curiosity killed the cat", well my 2 are totally curious about everything.... there has been evidence they get on my snackbar when I'm not home, since they have roam of most of my home.... the only room that is totally off limits to them is my cake room.. that door stays shut at all times ... I keep all my cakes in that room away from them because I don't trust them at all !! So I feel for you momof5kiki ... I know if I ever left a cake out, those 2 cats would be all over into it.
I put my cakes & cookies on top of the fridge - that's the only place the dogs (and DS) can't reach

You all are making me laugh. I think the turkey is the best though, how gross!!!!! LOL I think I needed a little comic relief today Thanks
I made a cake for my neice and put it up on a top shelf over night...well, the day she was coming to the house, I brought it down so that she could see it when she came in. There was plastic wrap on it and I really didn't think my cats would get into it. Well, I think I know which of my cats did it...if it was the one cat, Dodge, he would have eaten it...but I think it was the other one...Newton poked some holes in the plastic wrap, but what really gave it away was the frog on top (made of BC) had his head completely squished under the plastic wrap...I think my cat thought, "Oh crap!! I'll leave now and she will think it was Dodge..." Smart cat. l;
