I am searching for a new oven (free standing range) that will hold my 16 inch square and 16 inch round cake pans. Most of the ovens I have seen have racks that angle up in the back causing the pans to push forward and hit the door.

I had to make a cake a few weeks ago with the square and ended up using my daughter's oven that had the angle. I improvised and placed her broiler pan on the rack and placed the cake pan on top. It worked. I guess if I have to, I could purchase an oven like hers and make it work but it sure would be nice to have one that the pans fit in properly.

Any suggestions on ovens?

Thanks,
Terry Z

I suggest you take one of those cake pans with you when you go shopping. When I was shopping for a new gas range several months ago, all of the ranges I looked out would comfortably accomodate these size pans. Even my old Kenmore range had no problems with those pan sizes.

if you want to do that size you may want to stay away from the convection ovens, the fan takes up a couple of inches in the back. But i do agree, take one of those pans with you to make sure they will fit. And if you decide to get a model that they won't fit in there is always 1/2 pans, thats what i use.

I used to have an oven that would not fit my 16" round. I discovered by accident that I could make it fit by first placing a different pan in the oven on the rack (like a 12 or 14) then putting the 16 on top of it. The additional pan elevated the 16" above the angle of the rack and it baked fine. Just something to try until you find a larger oven.

my oven has racks like you describe, but I can invert them so they angle DOWN as well. Then you don't have the problem you describe.
