Why Do Some Of You Not Comment On Your Favorite Photos?

I love comments but I also love to see the favorites number go up, regardless of comments. I noticed that it seems the "favorites" is what helps your cake in the ranking too so that helps. I don't see how a rule requiring comments would help...I am like those who feel that watching a rising favorites number is a compliment in and of itself.

Also I agree...alot of the time it is probably people looking for ideas that are there to find cake ideas, not comment...and are building "favorites" so they can go back and compare and try to figure out what they want.

I guess to me, as much as I like getting comments, I don't like to complain about not getting them, and I don't like to say "Please comment" because its like asking your husband to tell you that you're beautiful. Of course he will SAY it, but it is alot nicer if he just says it spontaneously out of his own heart rather than saying it because you are standing there tapping your foot and waiting....

Lastly I'd say "be patient". I usually get several comments as my photo appears on the front page...however then the comments come in spurts as people maybe search on a certain theme or something. Just because your photo doesn't get alot of comments within the first few days of posting doesn't mean it won't! The gallery is GREAT for searching and many people will see your great photos during a theme search, etc.

Oh okay! I am starting to be convinced..... but still! All I know is that nobody elses opinions mean as much to me as the people on this site for the simple reason that when my friend says "Aww so pretty" she doesn't realize how much time went into it but when someone like the fabulous amazingly creative decorative artists on this site says "nice borders!" I run and tell my DH! So and So said this about my cake..... He just smiles and nods but I beam! So thanks to everyone who has ever taken the time to appreciate my cakes and from no one I will jsut pretend that all the people who put it in my favorites didn't comment and then hey!! extra compliments! icon_lol.gif

Seriously though! I LOVE THIS SITE!!!

Ok, the thing is this is not a mandatory site and hellllllo........ people sometimes a one word compliment is all I feel like leaving. If the spirit moves me I put more. Don't go getting all puffy on me and sorry if one word offends.Personally (?) I'd rather have a one word comment than a big ol' blank. I agree being put in some ones favorite is a compliment in itself.

Ya gotta take into consideration that people (me) will put photos in their favorites folder and not comment because the photo has been entered into a contest and you can't leave a comment. When I do go back looking thought my favorites folder and there is a picture that you can now leave a comment, I'll add one. Then there were days when it was a struggle just to get to look at the picture and then to try and save it and leave a comment seemed like a lifetime. icon_cool.gif So I am guilty there too. Now the gallery is so much faster I have no problems leaving a comment and saving photos and not get a grey hair waiting. thumbs_up.gif

If I have offended anyone, I'm sorry, that was just me thinking everyone should "read my mind" (apparently, according to DH, I have a problem with this).

why is it rude if comments are not left? if its in your fav then you like it alot and to me that is comment enough. i dont mind not getting comments.. i love to see whn my cake is a fav in anyone elses fav. i take that as a huge compliment and comment.

Ugh, this subject again. I'm with you, kjgjam22.

What I don't understand is why are comments so important to some?? If someone sticks one of my cakes in their favorites and doesn't leave a comment, I don't care. If someone looks at my cakes and doesn't leave comments, I don't care about that either. If someone leaves a comment, it's nice and all, but it doesn't affect how I feel about my work. I guess I'm just in the minority that doesn't need pats on the back. I like what I do and am proud of it. I don't need comments to confirm that. thumbs_up.gif

For me, I post pics from time to time for others to take inspiration from, as that's what I use the CC gallery for. I might like certain elements on several cakes that I've saved into my favorites and then I later combine those elements to make something of my own. Maybe others do too, which is why some cakes are in favorites without an equal number of comments.

I like to look through my photos to see which are favorites of others and the number of people who've put them in.

I am new to this site, and to be honest - if I have 50 views on my cake I am happy! lol

I think that it is just personal preference whether or not you are going to leave a comment, and I would NOT take offence if someone didn't comment at all on my picture!

I love coming to this site, reading, getting feedback and learning so much from those who are SO much better than I am. I can't ask much more then that!! icon_biggrin.gif

I generally do leave a comment when I send a pic to my favs. I don't feel obligated to do so, nor would I like to see a 'leave a comment or you can't fav it" rule. If I do comment it is sincere. I also look at pics and don't save or leave comments. Sometimes it IS a one word compliment, sometimes it's not. Sometimes I'm in a big hurry and save a pic to come back to itlater. And gee, sometimes I even forget to do it later.

I get an e mail notice when someone comments on my pics, and I always appreciate that someone liked it enough to let me know. I don't have a need for pats on the back but they are pretty nice to get from time to time. Everyone likes to be appreciated, nothing at all wrong with that. I don't think it's particularly a sign of an over-active ego.

Very often I will click the photo icon on a post to check out that member's gallery. I view a LOT of members pics that way, and usually leave a lot of comments. I've even saved a few members to my buddy list so I can access their profile/pics faster. I consider it a compliment to be saved to someone's favs.

All that to say, I like comments. Don't HAVE to have them to know it's a nice job, but it's nice to get them. Don't think they should be a requirement on the site. Am not crushed if someone doesn't think it's great. But we ARE all just individual people who have different needs, likes and dislikes.

Life is too short to get wound up about stuff like this. Let's be happy to have this great site to come to and browse, share, make friends, learn and enjoy this passion we call cake decorating. I know that's why I'm here.

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this. When I add a cake to my favorites, especially if there is an aspect of that cake I might like to duplicate, I almost never leave a comment, but instead send a PM. This way I can ask a question or make a comment and I don't necessarily have to go back to the gallery to see if the person got my question or comment. Also, if I'm looking at many cakes in someone's gallery, with a PM I can comment on more than one at a time.

Haha, cakepro, I could totally hear my mom's psychobabble when reading this..."If you need someone to tell you that you did a good job, you got more problems than your cake."

When I started cake-ing, its always something my mom would say. You were allowed to ask "whaddya think?" but fishing for compliments would get you an earful of stuff you didn't need to know about your persona. icon_smile.gif My mom was hilarious growing up. She helped me learn not to sweat the small stuff. Thanks, mom!

Anyways, my side, yeah- I like comments, but I don't get my feeling hurt if they're not there. And as I said before--if you have my cakes in your favorites--Wow! Thanks!

Actually, I worry about commenting for people. I would want things like "perhaps you should have done this different..." so that I could improve, but I wouldn't do that to another because I don't know them, and how'd they take it. I'd take the bad with the good. If you see my cake and think "I should tell her it looks like #@%$", by all means, do so. I'm not saying I won't feel a bit hurt, but I'll get over it and learn.

I work at least 12 hours per day caring for children and sometimes have an opportunity to look for ideas for cakes I want to make and don't really have time to spend writing comments about the cakes I choose to put in my favorites. Maybe it would be helpful to have a checklist for photos we are putting into favorites: Like it, Love it, Great job, Love the borders, etc.
I also don't want to put the same comment on a picture of a cake that has already been expressed by five others : If the comments say "great job" five times do we really need to add it again?
Just my opinion,

The only reason I don't leave comments on every cake in my favs is due to computer speed and it takes FOREVER (depending on CC traffic) to wait for the pic to come up then wait again for the back brouser button to get back to what I was looking for. But I do try and give credit when I copy a cake on CC that is in my favs and sometimes I PM the person. But computer/CC speed is the main reason for not commenting............

I agree with Monica! I like ALOT of cakes. I add alot of cakes to my faves, however, I don't always comment. I do enjoy hearing others opinions, both good and constructive. We should be proud of ourselves not what others think of us. I can see how we can get into this trap of expecting comments on every pic. But, I, too, would rather have sincere comments (good or constructive) rather than "forced" comments. Just my 2 cents....

I became a gallery supporter cause I wanted to be able to comment on as many cakes that I see. I am cake instructor. And I think that postive comments or constructive words are a must when someone leaves a post comment under thier pix. And I am a SAHG so I have the time to post. I feel honored that I am able to do so.

It's kind of late to jump in on this topic but here's my two cents any how.

I love to leave comments and I have a TON of pictures in my fav's but sometimes you look at the other comments posted and well, it's all been said. Do you really need 40 "that's pretty" comments in your inbox? I think of the favorites as a bigger compliment becuase most likely someone's going to use your picture for an example or to gain some inspiration (or at least that's my reasons). Isn't immitation the biggest form of flattery?!

I too would have to say computer speed. I have dial-up and it sometimes takes MINUTES for the pic to load! Yipes...
Don't get me wrong, I love comments and I love leaving comments...it just depends on the computers mood on any given day.
BTW...being a newbie here I have to say that I LOVE this site! I have only decorated 3 cakes total so far...my Wilton course 1 finale is this week...I'm sooo nervous. Everyone here is so supportive and just knowing that people are looking at my cake...something I did myself and that I'm proud of...is enough for me!
Thanks ladies for making this such a wonderful board!

As a mom of 4 kids under 7 my time can be limited. 5 minutes here and there. I try to comment but if the site is running really slow or the page will not load at all then that makes it difficult. Also I would rather have someone add it to their favorites than to leave a comment. To me that is more flattering than to hear pretty cake 10 times. Speaking of time, my 5 minutes are up because my kids need me.

I would just like to see comments left for me. Currently I can't see any comments and that sucks more than anything.

I take it as a great compliment when my cakes are favored. It used to bother me, but most times I'm at work and don't have time to comment myself. I'm looking for great ideas just like everyone else. I'm new to the game and instead of worrying about the comments (especially since I've been able to see one in months) I look to see how many views I've gotten, that is an excellent indicator of what people think.

When my looks to see my photo's, see calls and says "did you see how many people looked at that cake!!!"

Thanks for looking!!!! icon_biggrin.gif
