Hey Ladies!

I have all the info for our DOS ready!! Everything is in the evelopes & ready for the mail on Tues since tomorrow is a holiday!

I also wanted to let you know that my computer has a virius. So if you get anything from me via email do not open it! I don't know yet if this virius can attach to my email. Lisa doesn't think it's that kind of virius. She's been helping me.

You can email me. I'm still checking my email. But don't open any email from me until I make a post on CC saying that it's ok to open email from me. So....... nentertaneme, CIndymm4, jscakes, veejaytx, boo-boo, tcrema & others that email DON'T OPEN YOUR EMAIL FROM ME!!! Until I say it's ok!!

Thanks everyone!

Hey tcturtleshell, I got your letter with the info about the DOS. I have a question though. I've seen this mentioned on the site before, and I looked it up in the glossary on the site, but I can't find anything. What is color flow? I'm new to cake decorating, but this is the first item I've come across so far that I've just never heard of.

Wilton sells this Misdawn ... you can outline a picture, fill in w/color flow and then let it dry .. it gets very hard and you can lay it on a cake .. there as so many things you can do w/it ..

there are some really cute pics in the galleries that people did picket fences in their Wilton Course 2 ... I did this one too in my course 2 class icon_smile.gif

Thanks for your help! I hope I can get this at Michaels. 16 days isn't enough time to order by mail before the DOS. As a side note, does anyone know anywhere around Longview, TX to take the Wilton courses? Michaels offers it, but htey won't give me any information on when and how much....I'm really frustrated with my local store! Please help! I'm so excited about learning everything!

Misdawn, I don't know where in Longview you are located but the closest is probably Tyler.....the HobbyLobby store probably has the classes, you might check there if you can't get any info from your Michael's....they also have a Michael's in Tyler too....so if your store isn't offereing the classes this summer maybe the Tyler one is.....don't know if you want to drive that far but it would be the closest one to you that I can think of.

we have a Hobby Lobby here, so I'll check there first. But it looks like I might have to drive if I want to take the Wilton courses. Thanks!

MisDawn,

Hey! If you don't have any color flow don't buy any ok. I have plenty for everyone to use. We will be doing only a few things w/ it just to see if you like it. I'll also teach how to make it. It's very easy. I love working w/ color flow!

There are classes at Michael's in Tyler for sure. I have a friend who lives in Tyler. She takes every 1 Stroke painting class (I think that's what it's called) they offer. She said they also have Cake Deco. They are only once a week.

Excited about the DOS??

OH my Goodness - I can't wait! I got excited just reading about everything in your letter! I'm so new to this...It might be a good idea for me to just take notes. I don't know. I tried to fnd dummy cakes at Michaels - they had NO IDEA what was talking about (real helpful people!) I looked for them at Hobby Lobby and the salesperson offered to cut some "formed" styrofoam for me, but we didn't think that would work becuase it "pills" off. Any suggestions for me? I've only got about two weeks to find them. Thanks!

Misdawn, you can order dummy cakes from Sugarcraft.com. That's where I got mine and it took 6-7 days to receive them.

MsDawn,

Don't worry about the dummy cakes either. I have enough for you to use too~

I have friends that own a little Mom & Pop cake decorating store here. They sell everything you would ever need for cake deco. Michael's & Hobby Lobby don't sell dummy cakes. I get them at my friends store.

Anymore questions just ask ok! Questions are a great way to learn!

Okay, Misdawn, forget what I said...wait until after the DOS and then if you think you'll use dummy cakes, you could order some then! Can't wait to meet you at the DOS.

Thank you so much tcturtleshell! I think as of last night I have officially been to every cake decorating supply store in the Longview/ Marshall area! I keep getting these really weird looks when I ask for cake dummies. Is there another term maybe that the store clerks would know them as? I can't wait to meet everyone that will be there. This is gonna be great! Thank you tcturtleshell and Cindymm4!

Misdawn, I'm using regular styrofoam, 2" thick... I'm using my pans to cut out the sizes, 8" round and 8" square. I'll cut 4 out all total and I will glue the 2 rounds together; and glue the 2 squares together.... I've done this before in the past and it worked fine ... You can icing over these, just remember, you'll have to icing a bit thicker as the styrofoam you get from hobby stores isn't as smooth as the dummies, but it will work and it's much cheaper to do icon_smile.gif

Looking forward to meeting everyone!!

Hi Everyone, I thought I had better introduce myself so you all might have a clue who I am if I'm able to make the DOS! I've PM'd TC and am anxiously awaiting the info in the mail! icon_biggrin.gif

My name is Jennifer and I live in southwest Arkansas! I've been decorating cakes for about 5 1/2 years now - got started when my oldest son turned two. I've done mostly for friends and family for all these years but for about the last 8 mos. I've been doing more and more cakes for "friends of friends" and my name is getting out in our little community. I hope to one of these days have a real live business (when I get all my little ones in school - I have a 7 1/2 year old, a 4 1/2 year old and a 3 year old!)

Anyway... I'm really, really hoping to make the DOS in a couple of weeks. Y'all keep your fingers crossed for me, okay!

Hope to see you all there! ~Jennifer

Oh... and here's the link to my cakes website if anyone cares to take a peek! http://www.mycakesandmore.com (hope it's okay for me to post the link?????)

Hope to see you there!

OH... to those of you who are coming from I-49 South... There has just been another exit opened coming in to Shreveport. Make sure you look for Burt Kouns Industrial Loop & don't take the new exit. You will be able to figure it out I'm sure. Or just call me!
