Okay, I tried the Royal Icing again on my "water day" kid cookies. (Antonia's version) I love decorating with royal icing as it's very forgiving! Although I find it a blast to decorate with, I'm still not crazy about the texture of it on a cookie. The first day or two, the cookies are good. By the third day, I find the cookie to be drying out and the icing to have a foamy-aerated taste. (of course, in my opinion) I haven't had any complaints but the one true test are my wee-ones. They tend to let the cookies decorated with royal icing sit. When I use the Wilton's Pour Cookie Icing (aka Toba Garrett's), I have to keep yelling at them to stop eating them! I prefer the taste but don't have as much luck with detail since the corn syrup tends to make the icing a bit sticky to decorate with.
All that being said, here is my question-
I'm wondering if anyone has glazed their cookie (powder sugar, water and a bit of corn syrup, brushed on) BEFORE using the royal icing and if it's made any sort of difference? Do you think it would lock in the freshness of the cookie?
I'll give you 30 seconds to think about it and respond. (I'm humming the Jeopardy song as you think... )

Well your 30 seconds are up - and do not have an answer, but I am giving you a BUMP.
I am not a fan of the thick royal icing, so tend to place a thin layer on - no complaints about becoming soggy - but we are all the most sensative about what we bake.
I havent....but I have to say kos.... you did a fine job of covering ALL your bases to throw off any arguments or disagreements about your opinion in this thread!!!!
