Can anyone share with me wether or not it is worth the money to spend on the Wilton Tilt turntable cake thingy?? I have heard that it doesn't always lock into place when it is tilted, any thoughts from my fellow cake decorators?

Don't buy it! It isn't worth the money! I have had so many cakes flip off this thing that I don't trust it anymore! One of my friends just had a mishap w/ one too. They are not worth $50!!!!!! Save your money & go buy something else you might need~

you are definately getting what I expected.... I have heard some love it, some hate it, and some can live with it or without it.... I dont have one... but I do want one... but the price is not what I want to pay right now... I use a regular lazy susan that my hubby made with his dad.... it works ok...it doesnt tilt.... I need tilt! icon_lol.gif

I mentioned to my instructor (when she mentioned this product last week) about everyone on here having trouble with it, and my hearing it was not a good investment, etc...and she said that it's worth its weight in gold to her, and that she has iced huge cakes on it. She said something about there being a particular way you put your cakes on it (against the grain?? Hard for me to say cause I haven't really looked at one before) and that will keep it from dumping cakes.

I don't know, personally, but wanted to throw that in there.

Hi everyone! This week I posted a question on the forum this week about how to do the basketweave without getting neck pain or stiffness and I think there were two excellent responses. But guess what everyone? I came up with another idea providing it has not already been posted in the pass, although I would really know, cause I am fairly new to CC. The idea is to use a two gallon pail rounded with or without handle and turn the opening facedown on your working surface, which my counter or kitchen table are two good places for me to work with and put your turntable on top and start moving your turntable as you work and the pail remains stationed, which is what I want and it is eye level, which is what I wanted. So in other words, the only thing that should be moving is your hand/s, one with decorating and the other moving the turntable as need to. The pail/bucket only cost $1.00 at a dollar store and now I just added an extra tool to my decorating needs.

P.S. The above response was to an earlier post dated May 5th or 6th in case any one has not seen it.

chixbaby27,

now you've gotten my curiosity going about the "against the grain" thing...can't quite figure that one out... but I'm going to experiment with a big platter and 10 lb. bag of something that won't leave a big mess should it be dumped!

2cakes...I get your idea of the 5 gal. bucket, it may just work pretty good, Thanks!

I have one ...I never thought that i would get it but when hobby lobby had their sale for 50% off wilton i bought one for $25.00.
i never thought that i would use it as much as i do. I never decorate without it. I nver had a problem with "dumping". maybe lucky? but I have noticed the grain and think thats the key.
knowing what i know now i would definately pay full price for it.
however if you are not in a hurry i think that hobby lobby will have another sale in jun or july.

I have a question...thought...something dinging in my brain and I'm not sure what it is yet, but here goes...

By grain, do you mean the non skid pad that is on top of the turn table? It does have a "grain" if that is what you call it, strip like pattern in the rubber. If so, that wasn't the issue with mine. It was the weight of the cake on the tilt, it was on the first level of tilt and you could hear clearly the loud crack-chunk noise it made when it let go...then that awful sound of the cake hitting the counter top!

I used a 2 gallon bucket pail with handle cause if I am sitting down at the kitchen table it would be eye leveled or if I am near my counter space also, would be eye leveled, which ever working space works for you. You can also put under the pail/bucket a non-skid mat if you think it might slide or move on the counter space, but I use the kitchen table cause it already has a plastic cover over my table cloth. The wilton non-tilt turntable bottom locks right on top of pail/bucket once you turn it upside down. Hope this helps. You are quite welcome.

If I were going to buy one, I sure wouldn't pay full price for it, wait for the half price sale at Hobby Lobby or at least use a 40% from Michaels or Joann's...but if it is going to dump cakes, it isn't a good deal at any price!

I think I'm going to look for a bucket to go with my two-sided turntable! Janice
