Help with FBCT

I apologize if this has been asked already, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere in the forum! I have done a buttercream transfer image for a cake that is being served at a party tomorrow. How far in advance can I place the image on the cake? And does it need to be refrigerated once placed? I don't want my colors to run!! TIA

You'll be fine if you place the image tonight. It only needs to be refrigerated depending on your filling choice or your frosting. If any of those need to be refrigerated then refrigerate it. But it certainly won't harm the cake if you refrigerate anyways.

hi,

I just made a cake 2 days ago with FBCT on it and refregirated it overnight, the colors didn't run it was fine yesterday. I placed it inside a box (I made it using cardboard material) to protect from water droppings, any odor inside the fridge that may contaminate it and from my child's fingers (lol).

Thank you everyone! I will post a pic in a few days...I just got a new digital camera and I have to figure out how to upload pictures from it! (In all my spare time, lol) It is a Tinkerbell transfer, so be watching for it! Thanks again...

I've not had a lot of time to be on the computer lately or I would've responded to this earlier too. FBCT's only run during the defrost time from the freezing. They don't condensate like that from the fridge. Just from the freezer. So once it's in place on the cake, running "should" never be an issue. of course, if you go from a fridge to humid outside weather, that might be a different story. Your Tink came out really cute too (my girls favorite character right now).

Thank you both! I really had fun doing Tinkerbell...I am doing fondant/gumpaste roses right now, and wishing it was as easy as bct!! Definately not my favorite.........lol

how much gum paste do you put in the fondant to work with those? I've been toying with that idea for awhile now, but just have not had the time to actually sit down and work on them.

I am actually not using any specific amount (which is probably why they still don't resemble roses, LOL). I read on here about using a 50/50 mixture of fondant and gumpaste, and I am trying to stick pretty close to that....HTH!

You can also just add a bit of gumtex to your fondant for the roses and they will harden up. When I made them for my course III final, we added less than a tsp to a half batch of MMF and it worked great!
