forgive the roses they are my first.

Those are beautiful. How did you get your cupcakes to stay on the picks?

I found some sandwich toothpicks at $ Tree and they are really thick. I also used a flat piece of Styrofoam and put plain cupcakes under them for height. I didn't wrap it since my butter cream wouldn't crust (thanks Crisco) and put it in a box with heavy paper to keep it from tipping. I gave her the box so she could get it home.

I haven't read through all the posts, so forgive me if this is a repeat or has been discussed or rejected, but for packaging I was thinking of a large box (big enough to leave room for your hand to get to the top rim of the pot or can) and using syrofoam or floral foam at the base with a hole cut large enough to accomadate the pot/can, but fit snugly. The foam can be covered with a piece of tissue paper, cello or more shredded paper.

Just an idea.

UPDATE ON CLEAR CYLINDERS:
I just rec'd an email from one of the manufacturers. He said he's been in the business for over 20 years and the cylindrical containers are not made in a diameter larger than 7" across and to manufacture them larger than that would be very costly. He suggested the square ones, which I'm not opposed to, as long we they have a removeable end so the top can be lifted up and over the cupcakes! He asked me to call him to discuss!

I'll keep you posted on what I learn!

O.k. I have looked everywhere for the 1M tip. Of course all I have is a Super Walmart.

Is there another tip you would recommend that would still work ?

There are all kinds of tips you can use....have you thought of using a large leaf tip for a sunflower or daisy bouquet! That would look great. You could also use a large round tip and swirl it around....someone posted one similar to a plain round tip and it looked very whimsical and pretty! You could try a Wilton tip #199 also!

I love this! I'm going to go home and make them for teachers and our moms for Mother's Day. What kind of frosting are you using? I know someone asked somewhere on the thread but I don't remember the answer. Thank you for your help!

You're absolutely right....these are SO easy, I almost feel guilty charging for them! I'm thinking around $20 for the 7-8 CC bouquet, still feel guilty, but hey, this is a business!

CAMBO
i looks so cute thanks a lot..and hey dont feel bad ,it is your time and effort your are charging too....time means money dont forget that you time is worth it/.... congratulations thumbs_up.gif

green leaf filler 1.00
box w/cellophane 1.00

My total is $4.06 and I'm charging $15 each. This isn't counting my ingredients or time. Unfortunately, I don't think the people in my little farming community of 700 people would pay more than that. I might be able to get away with $18, but since I made the first one today and showed it off, I've received 11 orders! I'd rather get more orders at a lower price if that's my only option. If I could get my costs down however...

Any suggestions?

So where did you go shopping? These are great prices

clay pot w/ drip liner = .70 (if tin pail cost is 1.00)
1/2 ball foam = .87
shred = .06
floral pick = .02 (not incl card)
ribbon = .10
10 cc liners = .10
10 wooden sticks = .04
icing for 10 cc = .70 (doesn't include dab of )
TOTAL = $2.59

So, I'll probably be around $3.50 by the time I figure out how to wrap them!

I forgot to add the cost of my actual cupcakes is $.60 for 10....so total cost is actually $3.19, excluding packaging!

I tried my hand at these last night, with semi-disastrous results. I did not read the part about not using foil liners until it was too late. I will have to try them again this weekend using the paper liners. I can definitely see the potential.

These bouquets are so beautiful! Its amazing how everyone is using the same basic design yet coming up with new and exciting ways to utilize them. My daughter (Children) and I decorate together a lot and we tried them last night. Will have to post pictures later. The results were so cool, even for the first time. When the hardest part is baking the cupcakes then its a great idea. Thanks so much for all the ideas!

Here's my try! I don't have a 1M tip either (yet!) so I had to make due. Gave this "bunch" to my son's teacher for Teacher appreciation day yesterday (he made the sign). She totally loved it. The only thing I don't like is using the paper liners. I don't like the "soak through" look they get on the bottom. I'm going to try mini cupcakes next!!!

Thanks SO much for posting this awesome idea and sharing it!!! Lots of people would have saved it only for themselves.

Ladies, I had an order for today and since we haven't found the solution to the packaging problem I had to come up with something fast. I put the whole bouquet in the freezer for about fifteen minutes. The icing crusted beautifully and I was able to pull the bag over the bouquet without messing up anything. Once I had the bag over the bouquet, I kind of puffed it so it wasn't touching the cc's. I'm going shopping now to find an alternative solution.

Thanks for the tip, I'm going to try freezing some tonight so that the icing crusts well.

Yours are beautiful Shelle.

It's interesting that so many can't find the 1M tip. I went to Michaels 2 days ago and saw a ton. It's listed on the tag as 2001/1M, I think. Or 2201/1M. Something like that.

Yes, I tried the bag also.....I just sat my cupcakes in a bakery box overnight so the icing could crust, then pulled the bag up and over and tied with a bow. I poofed it out like you said, and then drove around w/ it in the car (yes, I've lost it)! The bag settled back onto the cupcakes, and something about the whole look of it I didnt' care for. I'm hoping the clear containers pans out! Those would be perfect!

Shelle....you improvised very well with another tip! They're beautiful!

One another note....these are so easy and so pretty I just couldn't keep them to myself! They aren't my "original" idea anyway, just my spin on them! I wanted everyone to benefit from them! There are some of us that aren't as comfortable making a beautiful cake, but I think everyone can make a beautiful cupcake bouquet and make it all their own!

Sorry if this question has been answered already..I must have missed it...but do you place the foam ball half on the bottom of the pot or at the top of the opening..and how do you secure it there....thanks

cambo Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile
cambo Posted 9 May 2007 , 7:34pm
post #236 of 454

If you have a 4" pot and a 4" ball, the ball will fit VERY snuggly into the pot by pushing on it to secure it! If you have a 5" pot and 4" ball, it may fall inside the pot slightly, and you can secure it with a few drops of hot glue!

Just FYI, if you can't find a tip 1M Wilton now has a cupcake kit with a tip 1M along with a bunch of other cupcake tips. It's around 12.00 but if you can't find one it's worth getting the kit and if you get it at Michaels or AC Moore you can use a 40% coupon. Thank you again CAMBO!!!! Everyone is crazy about these cupcake bouquets!!!!

OH, how much is everyone charging for their bouquets? I was thinking $35???

EW EW, one more thing, I hot glue my ball into the pot and hot glue the grass on top of the ball, I broke a $4 pot by pushing too hard to get the ball wedged into it. So hot glue works great!!!!

ok... I hit the motherload at $ tree and $ general, all different sized containers square, round, even found the styrofoam disks and squares. Also AC MOORE is havin 50% off of their terra cotta pots and plates if anyone is using those... I think that would make the 4" about 45 cents.... great deal to me icon_smile.gif
