Anyone experience this? I have a package of frosting sheets for edible images and when I went to use one and they were all stiff. Crumbled in my hands! I tried to warm one up a bit by leaving it near my preheating oven. It got a little more flexible, but when I tried to print on it, it crumbled! I have successfully used a few from this package in the past and they were stored in a cool dry place. Any suggestions? They're so expensive, I hope they can be saved!
I have had this same problem. I wasted 3 sheets on a cake I did for someone a few weeks ago. The last sheet only crumbled in the corner so I had to make a big border to cover it.
Is there a rip/tear in the bag you were storing them in? They've dried out .
I've never had this problem but I've spoken to others that have and many of them ordered from the same place. I'd call the place you bought them from and explain the problem. See if they will replace them. If not, you can try to rehumidify the sheets by placing a moist, warm paper towel in the bag with them (behind the last sheet, not touching any of the frosting sheets). You can also try steaming one over a pot of boiling water to see if that helps.
Thanks. I'll try that. BTW, how long have you stored them with no dry out?
I've stored them successfully for almost a year before using all of them. I've never had any dry out. The shelf-life is one year. It can depend on your climate and where you buy them from though. If you live in a very dry climate, you may want to store your sheets in the fridge (sealed in the bag). If you buy from a reseller, the sheets may have been stored for some time before being shipped to you.
Thanks. If I can't revive my sheets, I feel confident in investing in more. I'll just be very careful about the storage.
