ok... i'm making my own wedding shower cake and it's going to be with mmf of course (i think i'm going to change my nickname to mmf queen or something)... anyways, it will be two round layers (10" & 6")... i bought 8" cardboard plates and some wooden dowels... now... is this going to be hard to do or am i just making out to be too big of a deal? i want it to look like some presents with a big bow on top... can i wrap both layers in one sheet of mmf or do i have to do both seperately? i'm not really going to have much of a border around the top cake so i was wondering if the plate is going to show at all and how to hide it... anyone with any kind of advice on doing a cake like this, it would be GREATLY appreciated...

oh yeah, i changed my avatar too... that's my car... that's why i'm greencargirl... hehe... thanks everyone ahead of time! discovering this site has been so much fun!

Is that really your car? Too cool icon_lol.gif !

I don't think it should be hard to do. I did an Anniversary cake this way (no MMF though...it was BC) I used a 12" foam round (1" thick) for the base and a six inch cardboard round under the top cake which was a 6" cake like the one you're making. After I iced it, the board didn't show at all. I still added a border just to hide the seam.

I only used one dowel under the six inch cake...it was actually a plastic straw and I didn't dowel down through the whole cake. I wasn't afraid of it shifting and it didn't. With the extra weight of the MMF though you might want to use 3 dowels under the 6".

If it were me, I'd wrap each cake individually. It will look more like presents. If your good with the MMF (Queen!), you may not have to add a border between the two. The seam will make it look like two presents stacked on top of each other.
