EVER - this will be my first time to make a cake for someone other than family! I'm SO excited and scared all at the same time...

My question - she is going to email pics of the cakes that she is wanting. Yes, she wants 2 cakes for next weekend a graduation cake and birthday cake. Once I look at them I am to call her w/ a quote. What all do I need to consider for a quote? How should it look like?
Also what all should be on the invoice?
I have NEVER charged anyone for a cake before I'm so nervous!

For pricing, you'll have to consider the size, number of layers (if stacked cake), if you're using buttercream, fondant, etc.

Check this link. It may provide more help.

Thank you for replying!
I'm still waiting on the picture of what she is wanting.
I just wasn't sure how to do an invoice. I mean do ya'll break it down or say ingredients and labor or what? I'm jsut at a lost for what an invoice and a quote should look like.

I haven't sold any cakes yet but, I think the invoice should include: cake flavor, icing flavor, filling flavor (if relevant), color (if relevant), cake type-round, square, number of layers. You should definitely break down costs for special items for using fondant, flowers, etc. Also, add a deposit amount/percentage (you may want to consider this since you're planning to do more than one cake) and of course, a grand total. Also important, need the date for pick up or delivery.

Hope this helps. And, I hope someone who's experienced with cake sales can provide some input. Anyone else?
