I found a building for lease yet , i was trying to find out everthing that i would have to do to get it in order for a cake shop. What would i need to pass inspection. I heard someone post that they were able to do cakes from their garage The state I stay in says the resident has to be commerical zoned which knocks me out from during them from home. Aslo do any one have any other ideas around this even if i don't lease the building. I really not ready for that yet. Yet i want to be able to do flyers and cards promoting my cakes. Can any one tell me what they did to get around this issue.

I llive in Texas and I work part-time with a chef. When I say part-time, I help with serving if they need it or I make the desserts for them so I can have access to the kitchen. You may also want to check out renting a church kitchen if it is set-up as a commercial kitchen.

some states are just more restrictive than others. I'm in the same bind - it wouldn't matter what I did, I can't produce food products for sale to the public in my own kitchen. It has to be a kitchen that is not used residentially (meaning, I could put a second kitchen in the house if I had the ability to do that and only use that for the commercial product).

There is a place in Chicago where you can rent time in a shared kitchen, but I'm unable to locate anything similar in Maryland. Maybe THAT's what I should do . . . start up a shared commercial kitchen and rent out time to people!

Tame -

I'm in Cordova. There's no way I'm interested in doing this fulltime at this stage of my life. But, I might be interested in having someplace to rent on an ad hoc basis. Kind of like what JMT1714 suggested. There are lots of us in the Memphis area. You might find enough interest in sharing space to make it worthwhile.
