Thanks again, Lisa! I may have to wait a little bit to get these, but thought I'd get the printer while I had the gift cert. burning in my pocket! Maybe I can sell the ink cartridges on ebay, help cover some of the new stuff. LOL Janice

Lisa, I was doing a little price comparison shopping at Sugarcraft.com. The are getting the same price for the inks as KK, but their sheets are a dollar cheaper, so the next question would be who's less on shipping.

Their sheets are all listed as KK, but they have a "new" one that is 8 /12" x 14" (24 for $45.79) and says "if you don't have the large format printer" but doesn't say it is KK. I'd like the larger size for 1/2 sheet cakes, but wonder about the brand. Janice

Hey, Amazon is offering a $20 rebate on the iP3000 right now .. that means the cost would be $69.99 instead of $89.99. The rebate is good until 06/30/05. I'm ordering me one today!!

I think they'll be about the same on shipping. The largest size you can print with the iP3000 (and all the other regular format printers) is the 7.5 x 10" size. Large/wide format printers cost anywhere from $400 to over $1000...out of my budget--LOL!

If you want to, you can buy your supplies from www.icingmagic.com They offer free shipping and slightly lower prices. I've never bought from them and I think their site is just about the hardest online store I've ever tried to navigate.

http://www.icingmagic.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=126

I'm totally unfamiliar with their ink cartridges compatibility too. A phone call to them would make sure you picked the right one.

Where did you order if from?

Lisa, what cartridges fit this? I'm in icingmagic.com website and I'm not sure what to order that fits the Canon iP3000. Did you also get the cleaning cartridges too?

I just thought I'd add that if you're ever pressed for time, order from Sugarcraft. They get my orders to me in 3 days. Kopykake takes at least a week. I prefer to order from Kopykake mostly because I think the supplies are fresher coming direct from the source.

I buy my supplies from Kopykake. The link to the cartridges is a few posts up. I've never shopped icingmagic so I just don't know. I'd like to say the 4 cartridge set but I couldn't be 100% sure. I did eventually buy the cleaning cartridges but I found I didn't need them right away. Might be one of those things you get within a couple months of using your system.

Sorry ntertaynnme, I missed your question about where I ordered, it was from Amazon about 6 am., sorry if I got the last one!

Boy, I am thoroughly confused now, different prices, different shipping and different numbers, I think I will think about it all a little longer.

As always, Lisa, you have the best information and always willing to share! Thanks, Janice

You're welcome! Thanks for the compliment. As far as ordering supplies goes...I like to stick to what I know. Find a retailer you're comfortable with and stick with'em. I'm comfortable with Kopykake and Sugarcraft. I know what to order and what to expect. Most companies have great customer support though so just give them a call if you aren't sure what to order.

Hi, I ordered the Cannon IP3000 from Amazon. I want to order the ink and frosting sheets from Kopykake but have a couple of questions. Should I order the cleaning cartridges as well? Has anyone ordered the cake decorating software? It is $50 and I am wondering if it is worth it???

As far as software goes, you can find tons of it on the web. So why pay extra for something you can get for free. Canon creative software comes with all Canon printers. And almost any printing program will do.

I would look at what comes with the printer...and what is already loaded on your computer before I buy software. All Windows based PC's from windows 95 through XP come with a little well known program called "paint" that can be used for images and text very easily. It is found in programs...accessories...paint. It is worth the effort to learn how to use for editing pictures and such. Sorry Mac users...I don't know nuthin about Mac's.

Hey ladies/gents just a quick question for you. Will the quality/clairity of the edible image be improved with a higher quality printer? I've never worked with frosting sheets before. I have a Canon ip6000 coming and am wondering if I should just save it as a dedicated printer for cake decorating. Hubby picked it up for $75 so I could use it for my photography hobby. icon_smile.gif Thanks for your help!

No way! I've never bought any extra software. I use Photofiltre for editing (awesome...better than what comes with your computer, printer or camera and free www.photofiltre.com) and you can find lots of pics, frames and projects online (if you need a few...I can post links). If you're going to get serious or if you run a bakery, you might need to purchase some royalty free images/clipart that allow commercial use. Other than that, don't buy anything else.

Well he got a good deal that's for sure. I'd use it for your photography since the quality will not be any better for frosting sheets but will be better with photos. You'd still be using only 4 edible ink cartridges. You don't print at photo quality on frosting sheets so the extra ink tanks aren't used.

Sorry...forgot to answer about the cleaning cartridges. If you can, buy them now. You'll need them eventually. It's also great to have them if your printer won't be in use for a while. You can clean you print head and leave the cleaning cartridges in. Store your edible ink cartridges in a ziploc bag and then inside an airtight container. This will keep your print head from becoming clogged and keep your inks from drying out.

Well I ordered a Canon iP3000 from Amazon... I ordered my edible color cartridges (4 of them) from KopyKakes ... I also ordered some frosting sheets while ordering the color cartridges.. I'm really excited about doing all of this.. I've been wanting to invest in this set up for awhile now .. I have a good excuse too.. I'm doing a cake for my father-in-law's birthday party next month on June 11th and I want to print a picture I have of him and all 8 of his children for the cake .. I want to surprise everyone when they see it icon_smile.gif

Thanks Lisa for all the terrific information you provided!!

Iv'e found Tasty FotoArt.com. They have quite an impressive faq page about their edible inks and paper. Also alot of how to's...and a please feel free to call us for any questions on how to. I think I might give them a try for the ink and paper for my new printer unless someone else has had a bad expirience with them. Thier pricing is the same(.05 cheaper) for ink as KK, but I love the FAQs and testimonials about the non backed paper being better and easier to use. Even on icecream! Unless I hear somthing bad I'm going with them. icon_lol.gif

That sounds like a great way to use the new set-up, your FIL will love it! You probably should print him a copy of the picture and frame it to go with the cake!

I'm glad you got the Amazon printer, but I'm envious, I haven't ordered my sheets and inks yet.

www.tasteyfotoart.com sells wafer paper...not frosting sheets. That's why it isn't backed. It isn't better than frosting sheets. You'll be really disappointed with the quality of the images. I've tried using wafer paper and I was disappointed. Frosting sheets can be used on ice cream too.

Lisa come on, is that ALL you can give us?? LOL Wow, I'll have to save this for another day while I'm having lunch or something. Thanks a LOT! I just bought the Canon iP1500. It gives the same maximum resolution as the 3000 and cost me $30 less. I haven't gotten any ink or sheets for it yet. From what I'm reading the frosting sheets are what I want. I'm hoping I can get them thru the store where I get my cake supplies. He told me that KopyKake buys from the same people he orders thru and charges more than anyone. I'm calling about it tomorrow because I'm so anxious to get started. I'd rather buy local if I can.

LOL! They'll always be here to refer back to. I have a canon i350 which is similiar to the iP1500 (wasn't available when I bought) and it turns out great images. Biggest benefit of the iP3000 though is that the ink cartridges hold way more ink and they're much easier to refill (has a fill hole). You literally have to rip off the tops on the 2 cartridge ones.

Nah...only 3 makers and they all sell for about the same price (KopyKake, Lucks and Photofrost). He get's them cheaper because he has a business license just like all the other retailers. Hope he can get you a good deal. If anything, you'll save on shipping.
