That aint going to happen TC, I have been running a site for about 5 years now and its going to be that way all of the time.... Most people dont ahve time to sit here all day and get cought up on thousands of posts if they are new to the site and they need quick help.... and even if your older to the site some people are not able to be online all of the time like most of us.... So your going to see this time after time...

I hate to be the one to pop that bubble... its a good Idea and a good thought but ....

IMHO there wouldn't have to be thousands of posts if everybody, new and old, would do some reading on their own before posting a question. Some of the questions that keep coming back repeatedly are so simple you know there has to have been discussion about it before! Nobody wants to take the time to read, consequently we all have to read more and more of the same thing!

My wish would be that when we do make a post, an actual subject be put into the topic line, one that would let you know right away whether it is something that you know or would like to read and not have to read it to see what the heck the posts are talking about! "Can I Do This?" or "What Do You Think?" and "I Wonder..." just don't make a lot of sense to me. Oops, I probably got a toe or two that time too! Curiosity makes us read those little "teasers", it would save time for all of us to know what it really is about!

This is a really great website, with lots of great people participating and helping each other, I just think we could keep it that way and even make it better if we try. Janice

While they are good ideas, its just not going to happen. Me personally I dont mind answering the same question. When someone posts something that is already asks we can do a few things. NOt answer it, answer it or give them links to sections it has already been asked. Even is someone has asked something that has been already done, they might not be looking for the exact thing, even though it may first appear that one. I personally learn from repitition, as I am sure many do. There are many times when someone has added soemthing to a discussion that was not in a post that was previously done. So as far as i am concerened, ask away. If I have the time, I would be glad to help.

If this is really bothering people then maybe there could be a FAQ section? That way people would be directed there and could find an answer quick without asking again.

Hi everyone! With questions that I have already asked and got answers for, I put them in a new folder in my personal e-mail box so before I ask a question, I make sure that a question has not already be asked by me and even sometimes I print my questions and answer and put them in the section of questions and answers of my recipe binder. What if you need a quick help in the spare of the moment while you are in the kitchen working on a major project for a wedding, birthday party, graduation party etc. and you run into a major problem with a recipe or icing or even doing BCT, what do you do at that moment? Cause I ran into a problem with a recipe that was listed on CC in the search column, which I will post as a new topic. Who knows, it might have been something that I mistakenly did wrong while in the process of putting ingredients together, but I will review the recipe before making a new post. Have a happy smilely day. icon_smile.gif

I woulndt worry about if it has been asked or not. If you need something fast, and dont have time to search, which happens a lot. Just ask. Someone will direct you to the answer.

I know I'm probably guilty too, but there is a search feature for just this reason! I use it all the time, then If I can't find what I'm looking for I ask! It seems like there are tons of newbies every day, which is great, and the same questions are asked every day. By the way... where have all the oldbies gone?? It seems like I'm hearing form you guys less and less!I don't want to step on toes either, but a quick search could find you a lot of answers, then if you have questions, post them . Just my opinion and I know this topic caused an uproar on the wilton site. Hope that doesn't happen here! thumbs_up.gif

Personally I don't mind answering a question more than once. Sometimes you know what you want to do, but you aren't sure what it's called. Searching in the search field, you have to be exact or it won't find it. Sometimes we abbreviate. So I say ask away. It helps me too, it keeps all the juices and inspirations flowing.

I'm going to throw my opinion in - I am a "newbie" here. If it annoys the regular or "old" members of the site to answer questions from someone who is new to the site I can understand that, BUT if the site wants regular input and fresh ideas, how is that going to happen if you just keep referring them back to the same old information?(do a search - you'll find it.....) I thought that is what the forums were for, sharing information and ideas? If that isn't what it is for, then you could just have a FAQ section and not even worry about having a forum. I know for some people it takes a lot for them to even get up the "courage" to post when they're a new person to that group. It personally doesn't bother me to have things repeated, but then again, I am new at this and appreciate all of the information that is shared.
Knowledge is a candle that when shared, doubles the light, but the insecure person believes knowledge is a candle that is diminished when it is split between two wicks.

You are so right with your comments and suggestions, cause I'm kinda of new also and have tried recipes that I would be too embarred to give to a friend and they are recipes from CC, so ya, you have to question these kinds of things and I have also saved these recipes in the recipe box so that I don't use them again unless I experiment with other ingredients to make the recipe better to my liking. If we do not know something, then we ask. It is just like anything else, i.e. I did not know somethings before I joined CC, but I continue to use the site, I get better at things and take notes for myself and when I learned of an idea or recipe, I like to share. I do not want to put religion in this catagory, but I always reflect back on the scripture where it says: "God loves a cheerful giver" and that is me. So I don't mind likewise helping and giving to others like all of you here at CC. icon_smile.gif

This is a "problem" on every forum of every type... like Ladycakes said it happens...I dont think any toes should be hurt... I think we all have done it once or twice one way or another.
As someone has pointed out there is going to be new people to the site all of the time just because a question has been asked and answered dont mean its right and ture there is going to be different thought and different ways to do this and each time something is said its going to have either the same answer or someone that was nto around at that time may be able to post there thought and its going to be something new and that is going to be the one thing that helps....

I cant stress enought that not everyone is going to be able to sit at there computer for hours to read though everything most of the time its quicker to just post the question again and get an answer then ..

Remember this site is up to help people and if you limit how people can get help then your going to loss people...

I know that I would leave the site... OR your going to make people feel I afraid to post anything because hey that may have been asked all ready and they are not going to want to answer me too...

I personaly dont have a problame answering a question if I know it where its been type once or a thousand times....

This is a cake discussion and help site dont limit people in getting the help they need...

OK I did a quick figure here... If I was to come in at just this point of this message there is 21658 post I would have to read to find an answer to my question. A question I need answered right now at this min. DO I have time to search or read all of the messages to find my answer. I may not know what to put in the search to find my answer.... So I hope this helps you see that there is going to be repeats after repeats....

I do have to agree I think that people need to work on the topics and not put "HELP" OR "what do you think"
You need to take the time and post your topic to that if someone dont want to read that post they dont have to read that post dont make people that are on the site all of the time read all posts. there is a good amount of ladies and gents on this site that are willing to help. And there are a lot of people on this site that use this site just as if they were taken a class cause they dont have classes in there area or they are not able to take classes..

So lets all work on Topics and making them say something more then "help"

Post ISO making what ever color your looking for in the topic not "Help"

for those that dont know ISO = In Search Of

NOW that I have steped on toes... I hope that makes more since to some.

forgot to add the reason a lot of people are not able to find what they are looking for when or if they do a search is becasue of the way you post your topic titles that is what the serach goes off of when doing a search...
So that is why its important to put in what your needing help with not just "Help" ...
