How much would you say it cost to make a batch of penny's cookies and antiona's icing for the batch. I am trying to figure cost to tabulate pricing, I'm so new that I don't feel right charging a $1.00 an inch yet. I hope to figure out how to down size my pictures so I can post. thanks for the help.
It all depends on where you get your supplies and what kind of volume you buy in. If I buy flour in 5 lb bags at walmart, my cost is something like 20 cents a cup. If I buy it in 50 lb bags from Sysco, my cost is less than half-a-penny a cup. If I buy grated orange peel at walmart, my cost is almost $4.00 an oz. If I buy it from Sysco in bulk, my cost is about 25 cents an oz.
Make a list of your ingredients used. Find all of your receipts to see what you paid. Break down the price paid to a price-per-unit (per cup, per tsp, etc). Then you can compute your cost.
However...... don't go strictly by the cost of ingredients. You have to figure in a labor cost, electricity costs, don't forget packaging costs.
My cost to make a dozen snickerdoodles is $0.17 plus the 20 cent box to put them in. I sell them for $4.50/dozen. But out of that $4.50 is also the cost for my rent, insurance, company delivery van, labor, utilities, and all the other little costs involved.
