I have been asked to do a seersucker cake for a seersucker themed party. I was thinking about doing stripes on the sides of the cake, and make them kind of squiggly, the way seersucker stripes are. Not sure about what to go on top of the cake. Maybe some spring type flowers. Any thoughts??

so a white cake with blue stripes, or vice versa? is the party also nautical-ly themed? and what kind of party, is it for something/someone in particular or just to have a party?

I really don't know about the rest of the party, just that my friend who asked me to bring it said she and her husband are wearing seersucker. could be just a party to be having a party.

I notice you're in Doraville, so these folks are southern (as am I)... magnolias, maybe? Seersucker brings to mind the southern country gentleman, at least for me. And seersucker comes in many, many colors, not just blue (though blue, and perhaps tan, are the most common).

when i think of seersucker, i think of southern gentleman, babies, and older ladies.

do a very small type of basket weave with white and a pastel (yellow, pink, blue, green, etc) and then take a mesh type imprint and lightly press...ya know, if you look at seersucker, it's kind of squiggly...(my daughter has a ton of little small pantaloons in seersucker). i'm not sure if i'm getting my point across though! icon_biggrin.gif

Since seersucker is a textured fabric, I suggest doing it in fondant (unless the client requests otherwise), and using a texturing mat/roller to get the little bumps. If you lay down the stripes, roll out, and texturize, I think you could achieve the look of fabric. Good luck, and cant wait to see it when its done!

i just love seersucker, it's such a southern thing. I just found out that it's a Kentucky Derby party.
Thanks everyone for the ideas. I was actually thinking of doing the stripes on the cake in buttercream and making them squiggly. I hadn't thought of using the fondant, but that's a good idea too.
The friend that I'm making it for said she and her husband are both wearing blue seersucker, so I'll do blue. And then she said they were going to be playing bocce, so she suggested putting grass on top and then putting some bocce balls in the grass.
I can picture it in my head, I just hope it translates to the icing! That's always the challenge.
