Well, I guess I've been a member of the forum long enough and don't feel like I have to hide anymore. I posted some of my favorite cake pictures that my daughter and I have made. She's 25 and took the Wilton Courses last year. I, on the other hand, have been decorating cakes since the late 1970's. I was self-taught with the Wilton Correspondence Course at that time and then took miscellaneous classes after my husband left the Air Force and continued doing it as a hobby. My daughter and I share the responsibilities when we get a cake order. I've had both knees replaced and prior to that had eight various knee surgeries, so standing up to decorate sometimes gets a little hard for me. Now we tag-team decorate. We work on the design together and if I'm doing something and get tired, she takes over while I rest and vice-versa. It's like having two extra hands around! I hope you enjoy looking at the pics as much as we enjoyed making the cakes and seeing the happy faces when we delivered them.
KrazyKross ~ Hi there out from hiding! Yes your cakes are wonderful to look at, you both do great decorating. What a great thing to do with your daughter too! My daughter was here the other day and watched me decorate a cake and some day she says she is going to try it. Glad you came out of hiding!
I looked at all your pictures, they are just wonderful....My oldest daugher who is 24 has no desire to learn cake decorating with me.....she says she'll just stick with being the idea person and I can do the actual decorating! My youngest daughter does at least try to help, she's 11....what a nice hobby to share with your daughter.
Thanks so much for the wonderful comments. I really love this site. We are doing a graduation cake next weekend for someone who received his MBA. My daughter decided to decorate it with chocolate graduation hats, diplomas, and a large MBA logo. I'll post the picture next weekend. It should be an interesting cake to do.
Beautiful cakes! I really love the poinsetta one - just gorgeous! That is great that you and your daughter share the love of decorating. You are both very talented!
Kathy your cakes all look wonderful! That is so neat to have your daughter to work with, you certainly make a great combination!
I hear you on the knees hurting! Mine both need replacing and I can't get up the nerve to go get it done, consequently my cake decorating is done in short stages, I can't stay with it very long at a time!
Any words of encouragement?
Yep, what I need is a partner, or at the very least another pair of hands! I'm glad you finally decided to show us your pictures! Janice
Well done girls. I am glad your daughter is a lot more helpful than my 3 year old son who insists on helping. He does ok with the mixing part but I have to give him his own cake to ice as he is soooo keen! and wants to help out. It's good to be able to share the creativity so that you are spending quality time with the family at the same time you are making a little cash. Keep it up, can't wait to see more of your beautiful cakes.
Wonderful cakes and cookies! It's so nice that you and your daughter both decorate. You both do beautiful work.
Good job...my son also likes to help me and he is 5 right now...but I only let him help with the mixer....not yet on the icing portion...but he does like to watch!
that is wonderful that your daughter is your partner!!!! it is my dream that my daughter, age two, will one day grow up and want to be my business partner too. she does love my frosting and when i decorate a cake she comes over and sticks out her finger for me to put icing on it. (i use my left over icing and give her a little)
happy baking!
