so i tried to make nati's mud cake recipe this weekend and it was a disaster. i tried to convert her recipe to ounces and cups using various conversion sites as well as help i got from another post i made asking for conversion help. thought i had the measurements right...NOT!! i also tried to bake the cakes in a clay pot since i needed the shape. well, the top baked like a cookie and the middle and botton of the cake was still liquid - this is after baking at 350 degrees for 45 minutes (i did leave it in for another 30 mins to no avail). i ended up just making a carrot cake.
has anyone in the US successfully made nati's mud cake recipe with any luck?? would you be willing to share your conversion with me in plain english as in cups, tbsp, tsp, etc???? pppllleeaaaseeeeeee?????
i'm really dying to try this recipe out!!!
I've never tried that recipe, and don't have the converstion information, but I will say that I just bought an inexpensive digital scale that changes from US to metric measurements at the touch of a button, and it's been great for trying those recipes that I would have needed to convert!
It might be a good idea to look into getting one of those, I picked mine up at Linens'n'Things with a coupon, it wasn't too expensive.
hth!
Laura.
as slejdick said--> get a scale and weigh your ingredients. This is how I do my buttercream (by weight - lbs., not volume - cups).
recipes put together by weight are very hard to convert well to by volume (cups, tbs, etc) (in fact most professional bakers do it by weight, not by volume)
a scale will make it all so much easier. Just be sure to get one that has a "Zero Function" on it.
This means you can put the bowl on, zero out its weight. Add first dry ingredient, then zero out its weight, add second and so on. Viola...only one bowel used to measure.
