I'm new to the site. I discovered it at work and I haven't gotten any work done since that day! icon_lol.gif I have a request for a money theme cake for a birthday, but I don't have any idea how I can make coins? Can someone please help?
Thank you! icon_confused.gif

I've used the gold foil wrapped chocolate coins. They usually carry them at party supply stores, dollar stores and I think I've seen them at Walmart.

Or you could make your own...

MAKING GOLD COINS: I use the coin mold, and mold them in dark chocolate, then dust gold luster dust (old gold) over the top. Dust them with the dry powder, don't mix it with vodka or anything.

Thanks Lisa! I was wondering...I have alot of the Wilton fondant in brown that I need to use. Do you think I could (this is getting really creative here) possibly shape some coins from that and press a penny into them slightly to make the design and then paint them with the copper- colored dust? Let me know if you think this might work or why it wouldn't work. I have looked for the coins at my local dollar stores and at Wal-mart, but I couldn't find any. I have to make the cake for Friday night!
Thanks!

Dolalr stores will often carry the chocolate money candy as will alot of candy stores or big grocery stores who sell bulk candy. You could use chocolate and imprint them with a coin when the chocolate is still soft or you could make little round cookies and use royal icing to decorate them to look like money. good luck thumbs_up.gif

I think that would work. The only problem might be that the impression will be inward and the design will be backwards. No one may even notice though. Do you have any small number stamps? You could just cut out small circles and press numbers (5, 25, 50) into them.

I would use a candy mold and mold them out of chocolate. I think it would be much quicker that way and much less hassle. icon_smile.gif
