I just recently found out that I don't have to be specailly regulated by the health department in my area so I am looking into a license through the city but was told that I can start handing out cards with no problems.

YEAH!

Now I need some help. I want to use the bear off of my avitar but it looks like it is ccvering it's mouth when I use it as a still instead of the arms outstretched with the hearts over head. How do I fix this? If not fixable maybe a bear holing balloons or something?!
Next, I have tried to use a Microsoft Word business card template but cannot get the pictures I am using where I want hem on the card.
Third, in addition to the bear I want to have a pic of a cake hence Karrie's Kakes. Where can I find a good one? I found a few clip art ones but if this is going to be my logo, it better be something I like since you really can't change if at a later date. Or can you?
Fourth, should I just go buy a good software proram where I can do my own ( I do have a good quality printer) or should I go to a graphics design place and have them design a card for me?

AAAHHHH my mind is so confused and muddled about all of this. Sorry this is so long but I really need some ideas!

Karrie

PS What do you think of the name Karrie's Kakes? I am leary of using anyting referenced to karebere becase I don't even want to touch possible copy write issues (Care Bear).

Karrie:

Glad to hear that you are don't have to jump through hoops to get your business started.

Now for your cards.

You can use word to create your own cards, the easiest way I've found to make your logo/pic go where you want is to insert the pic you are using into a text box. This will allow you to move it where you want.

There are several templates in Word for business cards and the cards can be purchased at any office supply, craft store and maybe your local Wal-mart, Target, etc.

Not sure how to help you with the bear, but you can search the web for free clip art and find a lot of bears out there that may suit your need.

Let me know if the text box thing makes since and I will try to explain better.

You can fix your avatar by going to gifworks, uploading your avatar, then select Optimize, Split Into Frames and save the one you want to use.

I purchase my business cards from Vista Prints (vistaprints.com)

250 business cards are free...but you pay shipping, which is around $5.00

They have lots of pictures to choose from. You may want to check them out. The cards are really good quality and they have specials on stuff all the time. I got a rubber stamp for free...with shipping it cost me $3.50 That's cheap...I have checked everywhere. The stamp came with a bilt in ink cartrage.

Hope this helps....if you can't get the avatar

Hi Karrie,

First thing, any image you just pull off the webpages, like your avatar, is probably not going to have the required "dots-per-inch" that you need for fine printing. The web and printing are very different. For example, web images have 72 dots per inch that make up image (if you were able to zoom in closely, you could count them, lol). Printing, and good printing quality needs anywhere from 200 to 300, most printers will want the later. This means that you need a very large piece of artwork (if displaying on a computer).

There are places online that you can customize artwork they already have and they are pretty cheap compared to a commercial four printing press setup. This way, you don't have to worry if your artwork is the right size, use theirs. Here are a couple;

Your other option would be to find a graphic designer/printer that would do everything for you. You can buy those perforated cards at stores and use Microsoft word, but it still won't be very professional looking. Your business card is the most important selling tool.

I recommend Vista Print too, but be sure you always select the cheapest shipping method. Usually you'll get your cards in just a matter of days. There was only one occasion where it took me 21 days to get my cards.

The 250 free cards is a super deal. You're limited to just a few designs when you go with free cards, but for anyone just getting started, you can make it work.

I've also customized cards with them and loved the way they looked. Magnets are good too. Once you place an order they'll send you special offers via email on a fairly regular basis. icon_wink.gif

You can get business cards at Wal-mart or Office Depot or something like that. The gifworks site Lisa gave is awesome. Thanks for sharing Lisa!

Also, the name you want (Karrie's Kakes) is cool. But, why not use Carrie is that is your name. Then you can put Carrie's Cakes. Not close to carebears at all. Just wanted to know.

Anyone can get $25 off their first order at http://www.printingforless.com/ if you use this promotional code: RP1E6YDJ5

I use them for my business cards & postcards. They have done an AWESOME job on all of my orders. The prices are fantastic. They are also very fast. They will help you design your card and also have lots of templates.

I would recommend using professional cards because the ones you print yourself don't last long. The ink rubs off in a wallet.

Love the graphic, but you definately need something with more dpi. The font is very nice.

Congrats,
Jenn

i get my cards off "gotprint" and i think they have an option of uploading your picture/logo, i just used their art and it was 10.00 for 250 cards. their s@h is a bit much (another 10.00) but if they can do what you want, order more cards so you only have to pay the s@h once. i'm completely computer illiterate, so there is no way i could do my own, so i have to pay icon_biggrin.gif

Hi just got back from holidays so I just saw this post. I just had some cards made up for myself.
They are double sided, fold on top
first side: 4 pictures (fotos) of cakes that I did (the best ones)
Middle (when opened) top side my name
middle bottom adress and tel number
back of card: small map of my location, since it's difficult to find

One thing I know, the people wn't be throwing my cards away anymore, they collect them now. I've seen them prominently displayed at a couple of homes now
Downside is though they are a bit more expensive, but it's worth it, bc the people make sure, they don't lose them.
