trying to decide which icing to use for cookies for a baby shower. so far i have made mmf and royal icing and did a test run this weekend. i like the royal icing better but i think the mmf looks cleaner. the mmf reminded me of peeps which i don't like. i'm thinking about using another flavor instead of vanilla.

my husband thinks that the mmf is better, but he thinks more people will like the royal icing because it's familar to them. i'm not sure how others will like it. for those of you who have used mmf what has been the reaction you've received about how it tastes?

thanks,
manya

most people either LOVE the mmf...because they've tasted wilton's and it's nasty.....or they think it's waaaaaaaayyyy too sweet!!!!!

I use MMF for all my cookies and have not had one complaint yet. My cookies are thick and soft, not too sweet, so the MMF adds just enough sweetness to them.

ngarza07 your cookies look fabulous! If you don't mind me asking, what recipe do you use. I'm asking since you mentioned that your cookies are "not too sweet".

TIA

It's super close to the No Fail. It's an old Wilton Recipe

1 cup butter/margarine - I use margarine - Imperial or Blue Bonnet
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups four
2 tsp Baking Powder

I always double it. I use the margarine because it makes softer cookies and also they tend to have a longer shelf life. The brand of margarine makes a HUGE difference too. I've tried all store brands and those two work the best. Minimal shape loss and spreading during baking. I do not chill my dough. If I do, it tends to spread during baking.

I've been using fondant on my cookies too and then adding details with Alice's Icing. Everyone seems to love them!

I covered my first cake this past weekend in MMF and everyone could not stop raving on how good it was, I have never had so many people tell me my icing tasted good! I think you should use it, it has much more taste than royal icing and it is not so hard!

Forgot to add that I used the easy marshmellow fondant recipe on this site and did not add any flavoring.
